A5 - Kalte Erotik / Längst vorbei (no fun records NF 108) ‘81

the A and B sides should of been switched, the b-side kills the a-side on this one. to bad everything i read on this band is written in german, so i apologize for the lack of ‘post’ on this one. would like to add…im not sure what you would classify this one as, you be the judge.

Hey there — what a way to tease — tell em that the b-side blows away the a side and then you can’t get it. great site by the way — love the stuff you have been posting!

Interesting to see a german band out here on this site. I have never heared of A5 before but I like it.
Online I found some infos on the band and here is a summary:
They were originally from Bremen (in the north of Germany). It´s not easy to say which style they belonged to: New Wave or NDW (Neue Deutsche Welle / New german wave). The NDW marks a period of time in the 80ies and was well known for NENA, EXTRABREIT or TRIO. Maybe some of you heared of them? So its not really punk, but e.g. EXTRABREIT or TRIO have a punk background. The sound of A5 has a lot in common with the german band called NICHTS. Both bands do not exist anymore.
Hopefully this info was a little help…? Hopefully:-)
Greetings from Germany

Not bad, but I heard a lot of other German bands sounding like these ones. Funnily, my brother and I used to listen many NDW bands, but I hardly know ‘normal’ punk groups such as Die Töten Hösen.
Maybe a good idea for a next post? Some regular punk German bands, except Nina Hagen (too obvious!)?

another band i’m introduced to on this site. thanx. i find myself gravitating toward the quirkier stuff like this lately, stuff i probably would not have liked back then. guitars have an almost 4AD-type sound (XMAL DEUTSCHLAND, MODERN ENGLISH, etc).

This records sucks cocks in hell compared to the band’s debut ep!
Forget this wave crap and watch out for A5’s 4 Song ep which is a real punk classic and done a whole lot better than the uploaded 7″.
It has also been released on No Fun in 1980 I think and contains the best stuff ever recorded by the band.

Thanx for your interest in A5. Then named “Harald Hass” I was guitarplayer and composer of this band. I agree, that the b-side of the “Kalte Erotik” single featured a much better song - but back then the “avantgarde” fraction of the band was stronger and chose terrible “Kalte Erotik” as a-side. These cunts!
In 1995 I produced a compilation of both A5 records and several live tracks on CD named “Mein schoenes kurzes Leben” (My sweet short life) Limited to 500 copies. Want it? You can contact me via snailmail: Harald Kadagies - Postfach 104346 - 28043 Bremen - Germany, to obtain the original CD or for general information about A5. Sorry, no email at this time - i am moving and changing provider. Visit youtube and search “Don Araldo” to watch recent performances by myself. Love and peace…
