thought id share a little gift i got this past xmas…this little xmradio is so impressive, dont care much for the monthly fees but fuck it. I thought going in that the ‘punk/hardcore/ska’ station fungus53 was going to bite…fuck I was sooooo wrong. When I heard ‘Sit On My Face Stevie Nicks’ by the rotters I knew I had something here. XM needs more station like this one, although there are a few other good stations to check out now and then. If you travel alot and want to listen to some great radio I highly recommended you get one of these things you will love it!

I have Sirius and there’s an ok station with some good choice (Underground Garage). I emailed them and said their Tony Hawk station needs a 77-84 block of punk hardcore. Maybe I’ll get a job. :p

It’s funny, my buddy got sirius(sp?)radio a few weeks ago for the Howard Stern(inc.)factor and has already returned the whole shebang. He claimed
that if not listening in his car it was a huge hassle.Even in the car you get some interference and the antennea(dish)to the boombox came w/a 10ft. cord and you are supposed to put it(dish) somewhere it has an unobstructed view to the sky.
This presents kind of a problem when you work some place with no windows or access to the roof. Oh well, hey computers are as much technology as I need. I still refuse to buy a cell phone, Ipod or any other gadgets that take money AWAY from buyin’ records.

Yeah I totally agree. I got XM about 1 year ago adn fungus53 is such a good station. They showcase they best in punk, ska, and hardcore. They also have very good in studio performances. If you don’t have XM go get it! Props on this site, you rule man!!!!!!!!

It’s difficult for me to warm up the idea of paying for music that you don’t really have control over. Radio of any kind is driven by advertising, why buy into it if you don’t have to? My Ipod has everything I’d probably want to listen to and then some, and after initial purchase, it dosen’t cost a dime. Satellite radio might be good for following local sports team (if you’re into that type of thing) when you’re out of town. Just my two cents.

The station I listen to the most is the comedy channel, followed closely by the CNN feed when I’m driving. My mp3 player’s been lonely sitting in the house lately.

Kind of interesting to see how people are getting into this thing, especially “punk” types. You’d think there would be a loud knock against anything like pay-to-listen. Yeah, I pay for cable TV, but TV never provided me with anything like my passion for music. Where do you draw the line?

Also, people tend to ignore the fact that Stern was “outrageous” because he did his own thing and would not give in to The Man on FM. The idea of him being this anti-establishment guy dosen’t really exist anymore. Now he’s sort of like a cheesy club owner - you gotta pay to get in and the entertainment isn’t really worth the price of admission…

XM Radio is the best thing to happen to music, especially punk music in the last 20 years.

well, heres my 2-cents on sattellite radio…XM has 150+ stations, and the one time i got to check it out(my father-in law got one for X-mas this year), there was “rancid radio” that was broadcasting a GREAT thing w/Kevin Seconds interview & TONS of 7 Seconds tunes. about 1 hour later, it was broadcasting Bullshit like Anti-Flag,Casualties,etc…BLAH!!! there was also a cool reggae/dub channel & some interesting X-Rated comedy stations.not much else that didnt resemble some crappy “terresterial” station.Interesting,i guess, but all the initail charges, the monthly fee aint worth it to me. i still have 1,000’s of records & a cd burner hooked up to my stereo. i can “program” my own “station” whenever i want for no additional charges(ok, its about 50-cents for the blank CDR & the few pennies for electricity…whatever)

dont know much about Sirius, but they have howard stern. whoop-de-shit!! ive been casually listening to him since 1990. i think hes genuinely funny as hell, but if someone thinks im gonna pay for the privilege of re-hashed boob/dick jokes, think again. a co-worker got this service to keep/feed his stern addiction, and i didnt find any remotely Punk stuff on the service…whatever…maybee someday…

Hi wedge…you make all great points…i might of jumped the gun here on praising this xmradio thing..cause now a couple months later i dont even listen to it anymore. turns out they do play ALOT of pure crap and it seems to repeat itself daily. my contract with xm is now cancelled never to be renewed by me again.
