Bobby Soxx - Learn to Hate in the 80’s (VVV) ‘81
Wish I had some more info to share about this band. From Dallas, Texas. Bobby Soxx himself would go on to sing with the Teenage Queers and Stick Men With Ray Guns. Both bands played the songs on this 7” at some point, and I believe Stick Men with Ray Guns put together a compilation of all their old shit, including covers of these two tracks. I don’t beleive this one has been posted on any of the sites in the local internet mp3 blog scene, but if it has I apologize. The music is slow and sludgey and funnyvocalsoundingish at times and just downright fucking awesome. One of my favorite 7″s ever, aside from the one in mah pants. Har har har har har har har har har har har har har har.

Stickmen with Rayguns have a site run by the guitarist:
http://www.stickmenwithrayguns.com
The whole story is there…
One of my favourite ’sludge’ / ‘hate’ punk bands since the ‘Cottage Cheese from the Lips of Death’ LP…
If you haven’t got it already, you NEED the CD retrospective (’Some People Deserve to Suffer’)…
Unfortunately Bobby Soxx died a few years back…
The version of Scavenger of Death as played by Soxx and the Stick Men With Ray Guns is far superior to this one; nearly hypnotic in it’s sheer morbidity.
This sounds like it’s played with the tone arm tuned too high. It sounds nothing like the 45 I have…
i sang for a band a while back called BOBBY & THE NUTHUMMERS, this record should give you some idea of what we sounded like…at least vocally, anyway
This is a awesome EP. Also check out the live at Raols with Bobby Soxx and Teenage Queers. There must be more Bobby material in this vein, anyone know?
WOW!!! almightybooblikon beat me to the punch!!! i never realized the brilliance of this 45 until recently. Booblikon used to RAVE about this ep & does a PERFECT Sound-a-like Vocalization of it which i always found amusing…i got the “Blammo” bootleg of this a few years back & something just clicked that day…it all came into focus…THIS IS SUCH A VISIONARY RECORD ITS SCARY!!! it will be time to hate again in 74 more years & im gonna be prepared this time!!!!
ive heard of this ep long ago but never heard it
thanks!
the drikx brothers from The Telefones played with Teenage Queers & in the early version Valerie Bowles was on bass.check face book for The drikx’s steve ,Jerry & Chris. check the stickmen site ..run by Clarke Blacker guitar for stickmen w/rayguns / Bobby was an old friend of mine . RIP Bobby
this is one of the best 7″ I’ve ever heard. way ahead of his time. the biggest crime Bobby ever perpetrated was not putting out more material. best record to come out of Texas with the exception of Cherubs / Heroin Man album. I actually heard this on the radio in San Francisco one night as I was driving my cab and had to pull over to make sure I got the name of the band. Thanx Bobby SoXX
