Crash Box - Vivi ! ep (self released) ‘84
I don’t know much about this band except they were from Milano, Italy and this 7″ came out in 1984. This, along with a handful of other Italian bands, was some of the earliest stuff I mail-ordered from ads in maximum rock and roll zine. It was always odd trusting someone in another country to send you the stuff you ordered but when it got there you had the coolest international records ever put out. The sound isn’t the greatest on this 7″ but I think the music shines through the raw recording.

I’ve lost the link but there is a great Italina punk website Love/Hate 80s with dozens of classic hardcore MP3s and videos. Also inof on the bands although if I remember this was only in Italian.

The website is “www.lovehate80.it”. The best of
italian punk and hardcore. With English version.

Crash box went on to suffer from severe ‘want to be metal’ syndrome ala their ‘finale’ LP which had an airbrushed naked woman on the cover (as i recall, i sold my copy when i realised the music was sufferring from an overdose of squeeling guitars) & their stylised band name in flames - cheesy! You can see the seeds of it here too…esp. in the cover art.

i first heard this right after getting AGNOSTIC United Blood. they went well together. it was the winter of 84. me & my best bud were into ’sangue’. those 2 records, this one and united blood, are very ‘winter’ records to me. like cold, urban, evil sounding records.

i love how the early italian ep’s were so raw and out of control, there is a good CD comp called “the early years of italian hardcore - the year in 7 inches” - i guess a reference to the dischord comp. I cant believe i missed out on the LoveHate80 CD, this was the first I’d heard of it, oh well. How about CCM - 400 fascists?
