Akutt Innleggelse – Echos from the asylum (Straitjacket Records) ’83

Akutt Innleggelse from Norway were in their early teens when they recorded these three punk songs. Released on guitarist Thomas’ own Straitjacket Records in 1983. In 1984 they recorded a more hardcore sounding demo cassette with nine great songs. Their songs we’re featured on compilations such as the classic Nå eller aldri 7″ and Cleanse the Bacteria LP among others. Disbanded in ’85. Two of these guys went on to play in Turbonegro.

NEOS – “Hassibah Gets The Martian Brain Squeeze” ep (Alandhiscar Records) ’82

Q: How do you qualify “angry” in an art form (i.e. punk) that is synonymous with the term? A: The 2nd ep from Victoria Canada’s NEOS, which twenty-plus-years-on still stands as one of the angriest, most explosive, and above all, fastest punk records North America has produced. Listen for yourself, necessary flaws & all (feedback fragments, false starts, etc). In addition, NEOS did THE RAMONES one better by not only giving you a punk record you could learn to play along to (yeah, good luck!), but actually including inserts with the chord & drum structures hand-written for each song! If only I had a scanner, you’d ALL be playing along right now.
Thanks again to website Kill From The Heart http://homepages.nyu.edu/~cch223/ for the cover, who have also housed the lyrics for you. Oh, and the title? Allow NEOS to explain it themselves: “The Martian Brain Squeeze had it’s origins in Ancient Greece, credit being given to the wrestler Ephistomenes, who accidentally employed the unknown hold and broke his opponent’s head off…”

Theyll Destroy Themselves
(almost) Typical Obligatory Anti-Government Song
Where Did You Go Wrong
Just Like The Rest
Look Around In Despair
Jungle Beat So It Seems
Other World
Opposition To All Violence Even If Committed In Self Defense
Die For The Cause

WAYNE COUNTY & THE ELECTRIC CHAIRS – “Blatantly Offensive” ep (Safari Records, 1978)

Luv him or hate her, Ms. Jayne County’s not afraid to tell it to ya’ straight (goddamn, the puns in this post!). He/she does so here on the classic “Blatantly Offensive” ep. Now The Electric Chairs was essentially a rough’n’ready rock & roll band and not punk per se, but you gotta admit the attitude is in place in abundance. Anybody who calls themselves a G.G. Allin fan oughta lap this up, as Wayne puts it herself, like “a cold turd”. Personally my favorite track is the scalding “Mean Muthafuckin’ Man”. The cover was obtained from the very well done & classy site http://www.jaynecounty.com/ of the queen himself. P.S.: Yeah it’s in rough shape, but it’s vinyl which is what we’re here for…piss-yellow vinyl, even.

The Nips

The Nips – Gabrielle/Vegeance (Chiswick Records) ’79

The Nipple Erectors/Nips consisted of Shane MacGowan (vocals), Shanne Bradley (bass), Roger Towndrow (guitar) and Gerry Mcllduff (drums). They were part of the early Uk punk scene. This is one of their singles, the song Gabrielle was a small indie hit, and is pretty catchy. There a many different releases of this single mines from Spain; it has the textured cover.

BLACK FLAG – Nervous breakdown ep (SST) ’78

I’ve been pissed off the last couple days with this and that, mostly due to a proverbial thorn in my side. When I’m feeling foul, this is the record I reach for. The pure SCORCH that comes from my speakers when I play this record is the only thing that clears the anger in my head.

To the jealous and the haters of this world – FUCK OFF!!! To everyone else, enjoy the one of THE best punk rock 7″ ever put out and thanks for the support!!

The music scene in Düsseldorf of the late 70s was highly influential and many people who played in the bands (whose line-ups where a pure incest haha) late became famous (but I do not really understand the reasons…). Among the first punk bands in Germany was CHARLEY’S GIRLS who only released some tracks on a incredible rare live LP compilation that was named after the club in Berlin where it was recorded, the “S.O. 36″ (only 100 pressed, with a cover made out of two steel-plates. – I sadly never got the chance to listen to that one though). While CHARLEY’S GRILS still did exist, about three of them formed the MITTAGSPAUSE who released a double EP and a single before splitting up. One of the members moved on in S.Y.P.H. who released a noisy 7″ and a better Lp (well, at least one side of the LP is better, the b-side is slow and completely boring) before turning into complete needlessness and resting their for a very long time. 2-3 members of MITTAGSPAUSE formed the FEHLFARBEN who first did a two-tone ska 7″ and after that released an incredible LP that everyone knows of (and this for good reason). After the singer, Peter Hein (also in MITTAGSPAUSE, CHARLEY’S GIRLS, etc. etc.) quit the band they turned into just another NDW band. Today, Hein is back and the band looks even more like a caricature. Generally you can say that most bands out of Düsseldorf losed their progressiveness by ’80/’81 – the consequence were such bands as DIE TOTEN HOSEN…
Many of the above mentioned bands played the same songs (cause they had often the same mebers), most of the time in different versions. Another document for that is the posthumous live LP of MITTAGSPAUSE: “Punk macht dicken Arsch”.

MITTAGSPAUSE – s/t 2×7″ (self produced) ’79

This one was later repressed on 12″ format.

MITTAGSPAUSE – s/t 7″ (Rondo) ’79

The a-side is a masterpiece, but the b-side is quite annoying (a song about a magical dragon…).

Indirekt – Nieuws voor Doven en Slechthorenden (Ko-Rec) ’84

Indirekt were a dutch punkband from Hoorn who released a demotape (wich I’m looking for) 2 7″es, a great lp and a split lp
with the Vernon Walters. This 7″ was released in 1984. Female vocals singing all songs in dutch make it even better to my ears.

Have Fun.

CANI – Guai a Voi ! ep (Dischi Storti records) ’83

CANI (“dogs” in Italian) are another band from Italy I know virtually nothing about. This 7″, Guai a Voi!! (roughly translated “troubles to you”) came out in 1984. Although what I’ve read bout these guys claims they started as an OI influenced band, this has always reminded me of a DC/Dischord kinda vibe. I’ve owned this records since it came out and thought it needed a bit more recognition. Enjoy.

RAPPRESAGLIA – Danzi di Guerra ep (self released) ’84

RAPPRESAGLIA (“reprisal” in Italian) are a band from Milano, Italy who formed in 1982 and are still around today. This 7″ (translated “dance of war”) was their first release. Prior to this 7″ saw a few scattered compilations tracks and after they released an LP. Their sound wasn’t typical of the era either(hardcore & thrash) mixing element of ’77 punk with a ’60s garage sound (Wire mixed with Nuggets comps. comes to mind) Not much more is know about this band but if you read Italian, their website is here.
