The Mad
Here’a a “The Mad” special. Both their killer 7″s from the late ’70s. The band were known for their shock performance art type shows. Special effects featured a lot on stage and frontman Screaming Mad George went on to make a career out of it. Working on Hollywood movies and videos for bands that really have no place being mentioned here. Other band members unfortunatley didn’t fare so well and are no longer with us.
So aside from all the artsy aspect this is essential ‘nasal’ punk with a level of complexity that few managed to equal. “I Hate Music” is one of the most vicious riffing punk cuts of the ’70s and has been comped and bootlegged more times than I can count. Included here is their equally great if not greater 2nd 7″ EP.

i actually SAW this band. screaming mad george had a rubber penis, which he cut off, and guts came out…
The Mad have always been one of my old favourites. I Hate Music is one of the top five from 1979. Anyone seen Screaming Mad Georges hilarious special FX in the great movie Society? If not go get it.
Most of this stuff was re-issued in 1999-2000 by a label called Brain Transplant. It included a (supposedly) unreleased 12″ and “eyeball/I wanna be a devil” 7″. All pretty great, but may be already hard to find.
You know it’s a bad-ass record when “I hate music” was the first song on the first KBD rcomp !!!!!
I don’t know. I purchased both of these when they came out, and really never enjoyed them. So, as I always did….I gave them to a friend. I do love “I hate music” tho’ Hmmmmm….oh well, thanks for the music.
aarrgghh, great music for rainy nights.
I have a Japanese CD on Captain Trip Records. It has 9 studio tracks(all the classics)and 9 tracks live at CBGBs plus a remix of We love Noize.Well worth tracking a copy down !
