AS MERCENARIAS - DEMO 7″ BRAZIL PUNK ROCK (1982 - 2005)
Here’s a 7″ demo by AS MERCENARIAS, a nice and obscure female band from BRAZIL. This 7″ was coming with first 1000 copies of their 2005 1st LP repressing (Original is from 1985) on SOUL JAZZ RECORDS. Songs are demo version. This band plays a nice and fast melodic PUNK ROCK. Very interesting to listen to…

Atavistic - Equilibrium (Loony Tunes) 1987
…Rumble-core from the UK…some columnist in some fanzine (”trust” or “zap”?) characterised the sound of this music as a truckload of rubble being poured out over a corrugated sheet roof…
(it was hard to find out where to set the track markers…)

Dito Montiel, old NYHC personality and member of Major Conflict, has his movie opening up this Friday in NYC and LA. It’s loosely autobiographical (about the time right after he was in Major Conflict), and the movie looks like it does a pretty good job of depicting mid 80’s NY. It’s called A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and stars Rosario Dawson and Robert Downey Jr. (NO SHIT!)

THIS FRIDAY the movie opens in Los Angeles & New York at these locations:
In Manhattan it’s at the ANGELIKA on HOUSTON & MERCER, LINCOLN SQUARE 12 at
BROADWAY & 68th street & EMPIRE 25 at 42nd street & 8th avenue.
In Los Angeles it’s at the SUNSET 5 in West Hollywood (323-848-3500),
Laemmle’s Monica in Santa MOnica (310-394-9741) & in West LA Landmark
Pavillion Cinemas (310-281-8223)

Happy Toons / Dead Fink - Rest in Pieces Split 7″ (Landmind Records) 1985
Fast, powerful and quite diverse hardcore, typical for the sound of the early US 80’s, here’s the Posthumous split release by two Illinois bands : “Rest in pieces” split 7″ from 1985 on LANDMIND RECORDS with HAPPY TOONS & DEAD FINK. I need more by both bands, demos or rehearsals, if you can help, please, get in touch

DR. ZEKE - Udda Palsar ep (Schmajlers 109) 1979
Great 7″ by (another) killer Swedish band I know nothing about. I initially heard the b-side w/female vox and completely fell in love with it’s similarities to NIKKI CORVETTE and all the other fem. fronted punk bands of the late 70’s. I expected the same on the a-side when I got this record, but to my suprise it had male vox and was better than the flip side. Driving Swede punk with the right amount of rawness , some simple/ catchy keyboard hooks and almost sing-a-long vocals make this one tight 7″. HAIL SWEDEN !!!!!

False Liberty - Silence is Consent (One Step Ahead Records) 1986
Seattle Washington…not a bad single for the time era, very speedy and lots of core. They also released one demo tape ‘The Zoo is Free’ in 86 which was a burner. Used to penpal with the band back in the mid 80’s. They did tour the west coast with nirvana and apperently ate alot of top ramen, at the time i didnt know what both of these where.

Judgement - Night Brings (HG Fact 102) 1998
This is to compliment the “No Reason Why” post from a couple days ago. Here is Judgement’s 4th ep. This one features Muka-Chin on drums, Iizawa on bass & vocals, and Zigyaku on guitar & vocals. Hopefully someone else out there has the other two 7″s……

N.O.T.A. - Toy Soldiers (Rabid Cat records) 1983
Classic American hardcore here. These guys don’t seem to get much recognition even though they were around almost 20 years. This was their 2nd 7″ after the raging “Moscow” ep. They went on to put out a great lp and kinda cooled off for 8-10 years. They came back with some pretty good releases in the 90’s including the “give em’ enough dope” lp and disbanded shortly after. Prank records for S.F. re-released an early live/demo cassette called “live at the crystal pistol” a few years back and I hear may also release an early discography cd that includes the first demo, two 7″s and the lp, all material from the 80’s. Until then, enjoy this classic piece o’ wax. Here is the bands offical website with history, discography and photos.

EXPOSE - Complicated Mind 7″ EP (Expose Records-01) 1997-ish
More fuzzzzz! I don’t know anything about this band, but this 7″ is fucking amazing. I’m guessing it was released around 1997 since that’s when it was recorded. Self released on their own Expose Records, I’m sure not too many copies made it out of Japan. Anyway, this is total fuzzzz and distortion GAI/SWANKYS worship, similar to other 90’s bands of the same style like CHAOS CH, ORDER, SCREAMING NOISE, DUSTNOISE, etc etc. I don’t hear this one talked about as much as those bands though. Too bad, cause it fucking kills! If anyone has any more info on this band, please leave a comment!
