DISCARD - Death From Above EP (Rodel Records 21) ‘89

Once again, I know very little about this band other than the fact that the almight AKE played guitar and they are some of the most brutal D-Beat raw punk out there. This EP was originally released on a different label other than Rodel but this sounds really good if it’s a boot. Oh well, enjoy the tracks and as always, any additional info is much appreciated.

Tracks
Blistering Light
Condemned to Oppression
Death From Above
Death Race
Sound of War

Here’s some information on Discard which I got from my ‘Stockholm Mangel’ 2xlp (= a re-issue from the 80’s cult tape by the same name).
Ps : also re-issued on cd (feat. crudity, agoni, discard, protest bengt, röjers, mob 47…all of which are bands Ake was direct-or indirectly involved!)

“discard was never a real band in it’s original form. They never rehearsed, recorded only twice and played only one gig. At the first recording session Per,(who also played in Agoni, Protest Bengt & The Filthy Christians), laid all solos without really being able to play the guitar and only one track from that sessionn made it to the band’s ep ‘death from above’. The band later reformed with only Per left from the original line-up, and with the Discharge references toned down. Discard took the the Discharge cloning even further then they did with Mob 47, even piecing together their band logo. This was way before the whole invasion of dis-bands and an early attest to Sweden’s dis-mania. Discard’s songs had the same structure as Discharge’s and dealt with the same lyrical subjects, but some of their songs were way too fast to be confused with the English icons”.

great ep..when I got this the only thing I could figure about the band was that it had Ake from Mob 47 in it..but then again this was the days before the internet and it was pretty hard to find out about obscure bands..another band I bought about the same time as this band that had the same impact on me was the Disaster “War Cry” 12 inch..definately a great time for Discharge Clones..

I’m pretty sure Per from Bruce Banner did vocals on this 7″. Let’s not forget Agoni as well. Totally monstrous!!!

Discard also put out an album titled “4 minutes past midnight”! You can probably find it on CD still. I haven’t heard it myself though…I remember reading some review saying it’s not as good as their efforts with Ake on board so I never picked it up. But hey, Disclose covered one of the songs from it so it can’t be that bad. So yeah, I’m guessing they continued playing in the 90’s without him.

Someone punch me in the face if what I said is off the mark

i always thought this 7″ & disaster 12″ put an end point to the dis- era.
in mid ’90s i listened to a Discard album.i remember it sounding like discharge’s grave new world/gism’s m.a.n. with lotsa ugly guitar solos.

If anyone is intersted I got an extra copy of the ep on Jesus Kudd records-original. Make me an offer and we’ll talk or email me with trade offers. I’m looking for Japanese hardcore/punk.

I actually picked up a copy of the Jesus Kudd press for $5 maybe 2-3 years ago, I can’t remember but I my copy was on Green vinyl #’d out of 40 and I could not find any pressing info on it until the guy from Finnrec told me this;
“Discard:death from above ep (1990)
first press by jesus kudd records (960 black and 40 green)
second press by finnrec (i dont remember how many copies we made. i think it was an other 1000 copies)
the finnrec second press and jesus kudd first press (black) looks in exactly the same way (same coversleeve etc… no finnrec logo etc)

the rödel records did a bootleg of it. (That fucker have also bootlegged disfear & dispense ep`s. Orginally released by No records. No records was bought by finnrec when the dispense ep was released. Rödel put my name & address on the coversleeve, so it will look like a legitimate release)

The owner of jesus kudd record is a very big record collector and he wanted few green copies of discard ep to himself, so he did 40 green copies of it…
He also persuaded Finnrec to do a coloured wax of totalitar: vand dig inte om ep (we ordered grey wax, but get different kind of colors… 11 copies in blue around 30 in green… some copies of it in grey, orange and probably some other color…i dont remember)”

Just some more additional info

One comment here above say that Per T from Bruce Banner did the vocals on this 7″…that’s not right.

It was Per L who also sang in Agoni that did the vocals in Discard.
This recording is done 1986 but were released in 1990…
The song “Stand up and fight back” that Disclose covered is from the same recording-session as this EP…
