N.O.T.A. - Toy Soldiers (Rabid Cat records) 1983

Classic American hardcore here. These guys don’t seem to get much recognition even though they were around almost 20 years. This was their 2nd 7″ after the raging “Moscow” ep. They went on to put out a great lp and kinda cooled off for 8-10 years. They came back with some pretty good releases in the 90’s including the “give em’ enough dope” lp and disbanded shortly after. Prank records for S.F. re-released an early live/demo cassette called “live at the crystal pistol” a few years back and I hear may also release an early discography cd that includes the first demo, two 7″s and the lp, all material from the 80’s. Until then, enjoy this classic piece o’ wax. Here is the bands offical website with history, discography and photos.

Check HERE for a previous N.O.T.A. post done by the always great SOMETHING I LEARNED TODAY site.

Agreed - a great band and extremely under-rated. They combined HC’s fury with a kinda oi-ish catchiness. A funny story about their (great) first LP…I was listening to it on my personal stereo after a friend dubbed a copy for me, when I walked into a 2nd hand record store here in Glasgow, Scotland and found it in the metal section for £3! And that was wierd ‘cos I never looked in the metal section. Just one of those crazy coincidences that seem to happen to me…

I never owned the 7″s, only the LP (a long time ago). I was quite pleased to pick it up again a few months ago in the used bin for $10. Still sounds great.

Yep, definitely awesome! As well as the “Moscow” record. I was fortunate enough to see them at the Cathay deGrande in Hollywood in ‘83 or early ‘84. They were a great band.

I first heard these guys doing “Propaganda Control” on the “Welcome to 1984″ MRR comp and it blew me away! I’m sure it’s a live recording on that as well so I can only imagine how good they must have been live.

I’ve had the Moscow ep and lp since the 80’s and picked up Toy Soldiers on ebay a few years back. All good stuff! I found an upgrade for my LP still sealed on some english website in the metal section for only £6…bargain!
