YOU SUCK - You Suck Chant 7″ (The Only Label in the World) 1983

I picked this 7″ up years ago when I saw an ad for it in MRR and I’ve never seen a copy of it since. I don’t know how rare it is, but it sure is stupid. A friend of mine from High School recently wrote to me and asked if I could make him a copy of this record, so after I had it ripped I figured I’d post it here in case anyone was interested in checking it out. While I realize it’s a little outside of what’s usually posted here, it’s still a great record and should be heard more often than it is.

Released on Mykel Board’s “Only Label in the World” imprint (Mykel plays “Nails on a Blackboard” on the first song), in 1983. I did an internet search just now and wasn’t able to find any information on this record. Silly funky punk stuff with fake live intro’s / outro’s and one of the stupidest cover designs I’ve seen. The A side is the better of the two songs, the best part being the solo section by numerous non-instruments. I’ve scanned the inside cover so you can see what some of the solos were played on, because without knowing - they just don’t make sense. The Rubik’s Cube solo makes me laugh every time.

Like I said, I don’t know anything about this record or the band, but here it is if it interests you. Enjoy!

This is a great old album & I wish I could find more info or stuff by this band. I’d love to find out if there is any other music that they’d done. And I also love to find an original copy of this album!

I don’t see how anyone could listen to this and not find it at least somewhat amusing. This is 7inchpunk.com, not 7inchhardcore.com. Not everything can be brutal.

Funny. There’s some genius in here. Though I don’t think I’d want a repeat listen anytime soon.

I think i’ve only heard something that silly a few days ago, a UK band called NBC which played silly instruments like on this record, i think there’s a vaccuum cleaner and a type writer too. But it was more in the noisecore vein than this funk punk stuff. Here in France we had a kind of similar band called Lucrate Milk that used to play on kiddy instruments, pretty funny too, but do not abuse of this, or you’ll turn loony too.

Info:

The band really played on stage. I produced it in the studio (my first studio production), and did play nails on blackboard. The vocalist in the band was John S Hall, later of King Missile fame. Over the few years of the band’s existence, hundreds of people played with them. The photos in the insert (not shown) were about half fake, including one of my Aunt Bessie.

The record is still available, either from my website (I think) for from GEMM (I’m sure.)
