The Burnt - Where’s My Head? (Mutha Records Mutha 027) 1985
THE BURNT were one of the earliest PUNK bands in New Jersey. Formed in 1979, they were influenced by bands such as THE RAMONES, DEAD BOYS, SHAM 69, and local bands like T.M.A.
Hailing from Midland Park (in beautiful Bergen County, NJ.), they started off playing local “bars” with Metal bands - they would pretend that they were a Metal band to get the gig - as bar owners never knew at that time “not” to have a Punk band - but quickly learned. The biggest haunt for THE BURNT - and the home of their now famous “Power Drinking” legacy, was JT’s in nearby Suffern, NY. But it didn’t take them long to hook up with The Brighton (in West Long Branch) and get noticed by Mark Chesley and MUTHA records.
In the early 1980’s, THE BURNT “Where’s My Head” LP became one of the first releases on the Mutha Label.

hahah, these guys were always great. I love that song “I pet My Cat With A Bat”
i have a 7″ by a band called “public disturbance” on the same record label as this band,i found it at this lame record store and it was one of the few punk records there, but i never found any info about the band.
thanks for posting this classic shit!!! maybe you can post the INSANITY DEFENSE “pilgrim state” lp” some day…another one to make my collection more complete!! hardcore rules!!! greetz, eric
Also, I dunno if anyone else noticed this, but doesn’t the head on the front cover look VERY similar to the Headache Records logo?
adamoi1984, Good eye bro, that is the same head..intresting. Thanks for pointing that out. But I do believe there is a connection here with the Mutha label and Headache. The BURNT went on to become THE WRETCHED ONES - and HEADACHE RECORDS continues to release great Punk records.
Headache is run by the Burnt/Wretched Ones guy.
Yup, and I think headache records even re-released this 7″ at one point (maybe CDep???). Wrecthed Ones ain’t half bad and LIMECELL is another cool band on that label even though the label is a bit too tough guy/skinhead for my tastes. Sorry to any “cool” skins out there, but the early 80’s shave-headed goon gestapo soured me for life……
The Burnt had a 5″ ep on headache. I remember it having the Flintstones theme on it, but I can’t remember the other song. Also, they had another release on headache called Social Disease b/w Plastic Girls, which was actually the first headache record’s 7″. I actually have them both in storage at my parents place because I was moving around a lot. I miss listening to the vinyl. My record player died a little while back and I don’t have the cash for a new one. It’s nice that you guys have been posting a lot of the old stuff, I really appreciate it. Thanks to all of you. I hope to be able to post some day myself, once I get a player and figure out how to put them to the computer.
Will side two be posted?
Side two will be posted by Sunday, sorry been real busy and had no chance to rip it up yet.
Arman and BT are both in the Wretched Ones and still play out fairly regularly. Arman is the one responsible for Headache records.
damn, another forgotten slice from Joysie. remember hearing this one on the radio here a lot back in ‘85. hey, where’s side 2 already? promises, promises. can’t wait to hear “Let’s Fight” again.
OOOOH YEAH, the other song on that Burnt 5″ split was DEATHRAGE doing the masterpiece “Murdering The Brady Bunch”. wish someone would post that, i forgot about the BURNT tune on there.
ok…its not like this post got alot of attention so I thought why bother but since you insist on hearing side 2, I posted it now…sorry for the delays.
Thanx for getting round to side 2, fucking great good ol’ straight forward punk rock LP.
anyone know the pressing info?
The Wretched Ones practice at the studio where I work, I’ll ask Armen if he remembers how many were made.
I just need their 7″ MPEP one of these days! That’s great too, someone should post it, maybe I can send it to someone from this site? I think it might get more “attention” as it’s from 1983 + it’s on Mutha, and everyone & their mutha seems to want all those records these days.
“they had another release on headache called Social Disease”
And another, Charlie Brown / I Wanna Pet My Cat 7″ from the same year maybe. They were also on a bunch of compilations including Headache’s NJ & You, Perfect Together EP.
“I think headache records even re-released this”
It may have been that the LP was available thru Headache for some time after it’s release, think I remember seeing it on an order form in one of the later Burnt 7″s.
Who the hell is Mark Chesley?
mutha records founder
we want the 7″
