Coma - In a Coma (ADK) 1984

This record was put out in 1984 on the ADK record label. I do not know ANYTHING at all about this band. Coma definately has the typical ADK punk feel; they remind me a little bit of masturbation and aburadako. I think this was one of the last releases of the ADK label.

STAR CLUB - Hello New Punks EP (Club The Star CSR 002) ‘82

Recorded in January of 1982, this ep shows this group at their most insane status & is a testament for their classic style. fast, chaotic & still totally tuneful PUNK!! “hello new punks” is an anthem for any period of PUNK ROCK!!! beware!! there is a later issue of this 45 that is a re-recorded a-side which is backed with a somewhat limp cover of the Sex Pistols “Bodies” & includes a totally different sleeve.

G-Spot - Radical & Shout 7″ flexi (Deadlock Records) 1983

Totally unknown Sendai band. This flexi was recorded back in 1983 and released the same year by Deadlock Records. Without being 100% sure, I think the label was the bands own. It says G-01S on the back.
This record is incredible. Raw hardcore punk with gruffy vocals.

Nuclear Addicts Front

Confuse - Nuclear Addicts (Blue Jag) 1984

“The first recordings of Confuse appear to be the stuff on the Spending Loud Night 7″ (King’s World Records). These recordings are ultraraw noisy thrash and are possibly from a demotape, but I haven’t run across a trader that had this demo, although I have heard it was… This stuff is from 1983 and I think is a 4-track basement demo type of thing. The Indignation demo from 1984 is definitly a demo tape, I have seen two covers for this tape. More controlled noise but still outrageously fuzzed out and violent sounding. Later this year Confuse entered the studio for what I believe was the first time and produced the Nuclear Addicts flexi. This, as with the progression from the 1st demo to the 2nd demo, shows a less chaotic and more focused attack, but if you had never heard the demos and just this you’d be hard pressed to believe it. The flexi is a classic noisecore record, abrasive rough buzzsaw thrash a la Disorder but heavier. After this, Confuse appear on a compilation 8″ called Jisatsu Omnibus and the three songs are a bit more rough sounding than Nuclear Addicts (some of them are rerecordings of older songs from the demos as well).” - Kill from the Heart web page

The only other real information I have about this band is that the lead singer is apparently in a folk band now and one other member might be in the band eevee.

FRIGORA-s/t e.p. (Fuck Fashion Town records F.F.T.006) 1995

The BEST Mob 47 record to ever come from Japan !!!!!!!

Seriously, FRIGORA were around for a couple of years and contained ex-members of the band LIBERCAO. These guys took the mob 47/Swede worship to the extreme. Band members names and song titles were in Swedish and the list of songs below aren’t given proper “Swedish” justice as I couldn’t find the UMLAT (two dots above the letter) button on my keyboard- Ha !!

This 7″ and a split 7″ with Swedens DISKONTO were the only official releases while they were active (save for a couple comp. apperances). A compilation lp of their demos and misc stuff and a live lp called “dance of the plauge bearer” were released posthumously.

Incest Records #1. Released in 1983 and produced by Baki (Execute). Euro (Execute) was guest drumming, while this flexi was recorded.
Very much inspired by early us hardcore punk. Of course. Definitely for fans of early Execute. This flexi is of course very unknown to many people, but do not let that fool you, because this blue piece of soft wax will blow you away. Atleast it blew me the fuck away!

V/A BEST RUN FAST VOL. 1 flexi-(MCR company records) 1990

Two really solid early 90’s Japanese compilations here. These were the first two records in a series that included “best run fast” video and an compilation lp. Most of these bands, with the exception of D.o.n D.o.n., didn’t get much recogognition. It was probably due to the fact most of them didn’t release much more material than a solitary 7″/flexi or a couple comp tracks.

BEST RUN FAST VOL. 2 ep-(MCR company records) 1991

MCR records was famous for not only releasing records by smaller, unknown Japanese (and worldwide) bands, but also it’s “hard & loud” series of videos and all the city compilations (i.e.- Kyoto city h.c. /Sapporo city h.c. etc.). I believe that both these records, plus tracks from the” best run fast” compilation lp, were recently re-released on one handy cd.

MCR is still going strong to this day releasing consistently great records. Check out their website HERE.

Mess-Missing my axis
Idora-Helter skelter

Client - Trap 8″ flexi (Radon Label) 1988

First of all, I would like to apologize for the pictures. I don’t have a scanner.
Client was a very unknown band from Japan. I know very little about this band, other than this 8″ red flexi from 1988, totally rips. This is their only release and the first (and only?) release on the Radon Label. Great hardcore punk, with a metallic sound to it.

EXECUTE - AtoZ 7″ flexi (DOA records 001) 1983

Ahhhhh…..the first release by the EXECUTE and it was arguably their best (and rarest).
The EXECUTE were one of the earliest example of punk changing into hardcore in Japan. Formed in 1982, these guys took cues from diverse influences such as Japans early punkers the SS and the galloping metal of MOTORHEAD. They released several 7″s and appeared on a couple of classic Japanese complitions, “Great punk hits” and later “A farewell to arms”. They also were on a few other international compilations. All their records, including the “hardcore temptation” 7″, the “criminal flowers” 7″ and the “blunt sleazy” 7″/12″ are excellent. There was also a cassette release in 1984 called “live in hell” which I’ve never seen or heard.

In late 1985, line up changes in the band, including Baby and later Baki forming/joining GASTUNK, changed EXECUTEs sound. Anything after the above mentioned releases get pretty sketchy and aren’t recommended. Pusmort records re-released the “Blunt sleazy” record as a split 12″ w/Germanys INFERNO and there was also a legit discography lp called “Save your money” with all there early material and some unreleased live stuff from 1982. It’s too bad that discography is long out of print (even though it’s been bootlegged recently) cuz these guys were an important, early band that anyone into Japanese hardcore should be able to readily hear.
I guess this post is a start……………………..Enjoy !!!!!

JUDGEMENT-Process e.p. (HG Fact 070) 1997

Sorta by request/sorta by duty, to finish the set of 7″s by this amazing band. This is the highly coveted, gig only 2nd (or 1st depending on what you believe) 7″ by JUDGEMENT and it’s pretty cool.

The song “process” starts off deceivingly melodic and builds into a soaring, full scale “burning spirits” epic. I had heard the “No reason why” 7″ before this one and was pretty dissapointed upon hearing “process”. I imagined that this, their first single, would be rawer, faster and any other adjective you could tack “-er” on the end of. Usually bands go from raw and “Green” to something a bit more refined (not always though) so hearing this first song was a bit puzzling for me. This was just a hint of what was to come on the later records and it ended up growing on me.

“The situation” on the other hand is a full scale rager and would sound more at home on the “no reason why” 7″.
This song really embodies what I love about this bands early material (and most Japanese h.c. for that matter), precise devastation and a band set on “kill” for about 2 minutes at a time. Absolutely fierce!!!!

I’m sure the band recorded both these 7″s at the same session and maybe “process” was the token, true “burning spirits” song and the others were just pent-up ragers ala members past bands (DEATHSIDE, BASTARD & CRUCK). No matter, this is still a classic 7″ and well worth your time.

For the history of the band and insightful commentary try HERE for the “no reason why” 7″ post-HERE for the “haunt in the dark” 7″ post and HERE for the “night brings…” 7″ post. There is also a CDep on HG Fact records entitled “just be…..” that may still be in print and is also worth checking out if you dig this band.

ps: The sleeve scan is from the HG Fact website and the songs from my archive via “professer” Stuart Schrader- Check out his masterful new blog HERE
