JUDGEMENT - Haunt in the Dark (HG Fact HG-085) 1997
This is to compliment the previous Judgement posts. On the HG Fact site, this is stated as the 2nd EP. I thought the Process 7″ was the 2nd EP. That 7″ I read was a show only release. Anyone have Process and can you post it? This EP was my introduction to the band.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD comp 7″ EP (Bater Records, BR-22) 1994
Somewhat obscure (limited to 500) comp 7″ from Japan, released in the mid-90’s. The bands are also pretty obscure to most people; as far as I know only Poison Cola had another record out (a split 7″ with Blood Feast). Regardless of the popularity of the bands, they all play the classic ripping Japcore style that we know and love. Check it out!
Tracks
Grasp - D.P.F.Y.M
Poison Cola - Answer
Knuckle - Looking For Glory
Scum Blast - Gurow

BASTARD-Controlled in the frame (Self released) 1989
Another absolutely CLASSIC Japanese h.c. record. These guys came a bit later than some of the other historic bands from Japan and had a slightly more metallic approach, but the results are no less devastating. They went on to release a killer 12″ called “wind of pain” and had some comp appearances before disbanding. Later, most members (Zigyaku,IIzawa and Tokurow) ended up in JUDGEMENT (see HERE andHERE)
Tracks
Tragic insane
Spend your life
Defective chain

Someone recently requested some GASTUNK and I couldn’t be happier to oblige. This band has always been somewhat of a mystery to me and I’ve always considered them slightly different from the rest of the classic Japanese bands. Not sure if it’s their metal leanings (n.w.o.b.h.m. anyone??), their odd, echo-y recordings or the searing guitar solos, but something was going on that seperated them from the pack IMO. Yeah, they have all the elements of traditional J-core, Ram-charging tempos and shouted chorus’ but somehow their just DIFFERENT. Those things have have nothing to do with the fact that this band freakin’ rules!!
As far as history of the band goes, This band formed in the early 80’s (’83-’84) and is made up of ex-members of the EXECUTE. I’ll refer to the master of Japanese music-WEDGE from some of his comments on earlier posts of J-core music on this site:
” The Comes & Dead Cops also had members who eventually went to join Gastunk”
“Naoki was the ORIGINAL Guitar Player for Gastunk before forming Lip Cream. No studio recordings exist, but i have a live Video somewhere of this line-up ,& its pretty much common knowledge amongst old-timers in Japan that Naoki is the one who actually wrote the Gastunk song “Geronimo” regardless what/who is credited on the actual 45 release from 1986.(the previously mentioned live video i have backs this up as they perform it as their last song.)”
“Also in-between leaving EXECUTE and joining GASTUNK, Baki did the vocal on LIP CREAMS tracks on the “hardcore unlawful assembly” omnibus lp. He’s uncredited, but it IS him on those two songs.”
These are some of their earlier, superior records (which also include the not-posted but still amazing DEAD SONG lp and the GERONIMO 7″) but they’ve also had a TON of other releases which got pretty schlocky and cock rock-ish as they signed to bigger labels. They are still around to this day according to their website, but I can’t vouch for who’s still in the band or the quality of the music.
Anyway, I’m sure there is more, but for now enjoy some great records. Thanks to WEDGE (where are you?? hope all is well!!) for general knowlege & mastery of most any Japanese music (and most other music for that matter). For a cool discography, try HERE or for their OFFICIAL site try HERE

OK, these 2 records were re-issued about 2 years ago as a split LP in Japan.GOOD LUCK finding that specific edition!!! suposedly, that issue was LESS than 200 copies pressed…AND it was official!!!…GOOD LUCK!!!
Anyways, i know nothing of these 2 bands. originally released on the totally legendary/cult label SKELETON RECORDS ( also released 7″es by B-STRIFE, & KIMIARA; & also a planned 8″ Omnibus including all 4 bands that was never released, proposed title was “Sieg-Hell Skeleton”) in 1984. Tokyo area stuff. Big hair & total-”Road Warrior” looks. one of the GASMASK ep tracks was on a German bootleg 7″ compilation from the early 1990’s, but thats it…any info would be great!!
As the sleeve says on the COWARD flexi..”FUCK OFF : HEAVY METAL , HARD ROCK , SLASH METAL”…i don’t think i could agree more…

BAWS - Let’s Have a Ball (ADK) 1984
I think this record is good but compared to other ADK releases like Disarray and LSD, I think this is kind of over rated. Anyway I’m posting this due to a few requests. What we have here is mid tempo, gruff Japanese punk with a thin guitar sound. The last two tracks are their cuts found on the Hardcore Unlawful Assembly compilation which IMHO are better than the 7″.

Outo was a manic Osaka thrash band and here I include their three EP releases plus their tracks from the Thrash Til Death compilation. Notice how on their first two 7″s they play with a sloppy and loose style much like 1985-era Confuse and the Innocents, but on their last 7″ and the Thrash Til Death tracks they follow a more precise thrashing sound in the fashion of Gauze and Systematic Death.
If you like these songs make sure you track down other Outo releases out they since they have an LP and a handful of compilation tracks. Big thanks to the Austriken page, KFTH, and this page for info and scans.

V/A-ANGLICAN SCRAPE ATTIC
V/A-Anglican Scrape Attic 7″ flexi (No label) 1985
Really solid, mid 80’s compilation put out by U.K. thrash maniac, Dig Pearson. Dig released another comp. flexi similar to this called “Putrid Evil” (feat. Stupids/Civil Dissident/Septic Death) before deciding his hobby of releasing records by bands he loved needed a name. He called his upstart label EARACHE records and the rest is thrash history.
This comp. features infamous California headbangers HIRAX. Metal and hardcore weren’t quite united yet, and at this point both of those scenes generally despised one another. Dig was a bit visionary in that way and put these two great types of music together on one 7″ phonosheet (flexi) a year or two before the whole shebang was called CROSSOVER. As metal and hardcore finally melded, the results were some (re: very few) GREAT bands and ALOT of complete shit.
The comp also featured excellent songs by (soon to be legendary) Japanese bands, the EXECUTE and LIP CREAM. U.K. fox hunt sabatuers CONCRETE SOX contribute an early, piss-raw version of the song “eminent scum”. Lastly, U.K. thrashers SACRILEGE turn in my favorite song on the comp. “Bloodrun” was from their 2nd or 3rd demo and has an amazingly thick recording. These guys (and girl) were one of the best bands from England, along with HERESYand RIPCORD, but later turned “fantasy metal “(dungeons and dragons type stuff) and sucked hard.

Tracks
Hirax - Destruction and Terror
the Execute - Your Eyes
Lip Cream - Top Fight
Concrete Sox - Eminent Scum
Sacrilege - Blood Run

Crow - Who Killed Dove? 7″ (Self Released) 1986
Crow (Osaka) delivers four outstanding tracks on this first 7″ titled “Who Killed Dove?”
All tracks on here are perfectly executed hardcore songs taking the same approach as Zouo, Mobs and Anti Septic but including a more present Discharge influence. The gloomy guitar and bass tone in this record mixes very well with the gruff vocals and precise drumming. Pay special attention to the title track, which stands out the most to me for having cool back up vocals. By the way, look for their “Last Chaos” LP which rules too.
