EXPOSE - Complicated Mind 7″ EP (Expose Records-01) 1997-ish
More fuzzzzz! I don’t know anything about this band, but this 7″ is fucking amazing. I’m guessing it was released around 1997 since that’s when it was recorded. Self released on their own Expose Records, I’m sure not too many copies made it out of Japan. Anyway, this is total fuzzzz and distortion GAI/SWANKYS worship, similar to other 90’s bands of the same style like CHAOS CH, ORDER, SCREAMING NOISE, DUSTNOISE, etc etc. I don’t hear this one talked about as much as those bands though. Too bad, cause it fucking kills! If anyone has any more info on this band, please leave a comment!

Dust Noise - Healthy Filthy Noise Attack 7″ (1998) & Destroy Everything 7″ (2000)
Here’s the 1st and 2n 7″ from the rather short lived Japanese fuzz gods, Dust Noise (for those who keep track of the ‘details’ : they were from Kanagawa).
I’m not totally sure about the year they started (me thinks 1997 would be a safe bet…before they dis-banded in 2000). Apart from these 7″s they left us with 3 demos, 1 live recording & an appearance on the ‘hottest blood of youth, yokohama city hc compilation cd (2 trx, both previously released).
The 1st one ‘healthy filth noise attack’ saw the day of light in ‘98 (self released on their label aargh records), the 2nd 7″ ‘destroy everything’ in 2000 (on the same label & at the same studio as the 1st 7″, ’studio fuzzy’).
Both records are getting quite hard to come but you should be able to find’m in some Japanese distro without costing you a leg (it caught my attention that someone paid $152(!) for the 1st 7″ on ebay last month…).
A damn good reason for posting them right here!
enjoy

JUDGEMENT - No Reason Why (HG-Fact hg-071) ‘96
Blistering, modern Japanese hardcore. I would’nt describe this as “burning spirits” as much as I would call it a NUTS ON FIRE rager. This is practically lengendary before the needle drops because the band consists of 1/2 of BASTARD, Nori from CRUCK and the drummer from DEATH SIDE. Lucky for you when the stylus DOES hit vinyl, you’re treated to a few minutes of absolutely devastasting J-core.
This was their 1st. 7″. There were four 7′’s and a cd-ep released by these guys and went on to include such Japanese hardcore luminaries such as Tokurow from BASTARD and Jha-Jha from the mighty LIP CREAM (usually the singer being the only line-up change). Not sure what they are up to these days but, all their releases (if you can find em’) are strongly recommended.

V/A The Bottom Rise Up The Top 8″ flexi (Devilish Records) ‘89
This is an amazing record which includes one of my favorite Japanese hardcore bands, ASBESTOS. Although I don’t know too much about them, these are two of the rawest songs I have ever heard of theirs. Unfortunately, I don’t know too much about the other bands on this compilation but they are also really good. JUNTESS and SLAVER on the A side provide 2 tracks each of pummelling noise while YELLOW LABEL nicely follows ASBESTOS on the AA side. As always, any additional information on the bands would be helpful. Hope you all enjoy the tunes.
Tracks
JUNTESS - Fight Against
JUNTESS - Air Head Girls
SLAVER - Nail Up
SLAVER - Natural Waste
ASBESTOS - In the Death Agony
ASBESTOS - Demilitarised
YELLOW LABEL - Break Tedium

DISCLOSE / INSANE YOUTH split - Kochi-City Hardcore (MCR-063) ‘93
This is probably my favorite band. I love DISCLOSE. Simple, angry, and punk as hell. This is their first split vinyl release as a band. It was released by MCR in 1993. INSANE YOUTH is also excellent on this record but unfortunately I don’t know too much about them. Any help would be great. Anyway, enjoy the tracks.

CHIKUSYO - Death In Life 7” flexi (Fasten-Up) 198?
This is one i want to share mostly to get more infos about it. Chikusyo should mean something like “way of shit”. Musically well this one is more melodic than chaotic but have your typical catchy riff, with a powerful rhythm section ala Motorhead, i like it personnally. Songs 2& 3 don’t have any pause between each other.

LIP CREAM- Night rider ep (AA records. AA007) 1984
LIP CREAMs second (released) 7″ and it’s a scorcher. 4 songs here that show the earlier “punky” side of the band. Their later releases found them leaning more towards a “thrash” sound, but all their stuff fuggin’ rules (and is highly recommended). These guys are one of the absolute LEGENDARY bands of Japanese hardcore and anyone who has been around this site for awhile knows how I feel about em’. For more info check HERE and for a complete discography check HERE

NIGHTMARE-S/T 7″ (Selfish records AMI-7031) 1988
First 7″ by this rampaging Osaka band. Their style of slightly metallic, mid-paced, galloping punk, was what would eventually called “traditional Japanese hardcore”. With searing guitar leads, shouted choruses and hair cuts that would rival most diehard NASCAR fans, they were one of many bands to play this style and make the Japanese music scene more widely known, especially in “cross-over” friendly America in the mid to late 80’s.
They went on to release a few more singles and an LP and are still active to this day. They were suppose to tour the west coast of the USA a year or two ago, but hassels @ customs saw them not getting into the counntry. They ended up getting into to Canada and having to play some hastily arranged shows there. They have released a new-ish record that sounds pretty decent and just finished a Euro-tour. Most of their music has been compiled on a couple of cds and is still readily available( I believe) and recommended. A great band that I appreciate still being around.

DEAD COPS-Kill the cops flexi (ADK 12s) ‘84
I have always loved this 7″ (and practically everything ADK released) but I know next to nothing about it. I believe there were future members of the mighty LIP CREAM and GASTUNK who played on this record and this may have been their only release. The vocals are also sung in pretty good English(or at least a good imitation) which makes me wonder if all the members of this band were Japanese. I would sure appreciate MORE info on this band and record if someone would be kind enough to volunteer it.

MOBS-Diabolism ep (Noise room records NRR 001) 1984
Cool, gruff hardcore that reminds me of a poor mans ZOUO (check out the song titles). Whether there is any connection or just coincidence, we may never know. This was their first ep put out by noise room records ( home of BONES, ANTI SEPTIC etc) and it has the same look and feel of the above mentioned HORROR legends. They also had 2 tracks on the absolutely essential “HARDCORE UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLY” compilation LP (also featuring ZOUO, hmmm?). Their second 7″ was noisy and plodding (i.e BORING!!) and not very good in my opinion. The below picture was taken from it ( although I’ve seen different covers-repress or boot??). More questionable material came later but was of little intrest. This, and the comp tracks, were by far their best material
