The Rude Kids - Raggare Is A Bunch Of Motherfuckers (polydor records) ‘78
Raggare (from the word “ragga” wich means roughly “to seek sexual contact with someone”) is a subculture found mostly in Sweden and parts of Norway and Finland, mostly in rural environments and smaller villages.
Raggare have existed since the 1950s and haven’t changed much since then. Their culture is based on American popular culture of the 1950s, and typically centers around a “rebel” image. James Dean’s Rebel Without a Cause is a popular source of influence.
Very important to raggare are their cars, they are large US cars from the 1950s and beyond, 50s cars are prefered but any large american V8-powerd car will do. If one is not available some substitutes are used, for instance Volvo Amazon, fintail Mercedes or some other car with US styling (but never a Japanese car). If that too fails an older Volvo may be used, usually in the 200-series.
The music of choice is rockabilly. The clothes and hairstyle are that of 1950s rockabilly. Blue jeans, cowboy boots, white t-shirts, sometimes with print (also used to store your pack of cigarettes by folding the sleeve), leather or jeans jacket. The hair is styled using Brylcreem or some other pomade.
One of the most popular artists among raggare is Eddie Meduza.
Raggare now
No longer considered a menace to society, the raggar-culture very much lives on in Sweden but in many ways it is still viewed in a negative light. Because of its mostly rural roots, Retro-esthetics, and unusual (for Swedes) pro-American stance, Raggare are often (in urban areas and in pop-culture) seen as uneducated white trash with poor taste and a low-brow attitude towards sex. This is how they are normally depicted on film and television with the most famous modern example being the cult-characters “Ronny & Ragge”, a pair of complete idiots who cruise around in their beat-up Ford Taunus.
There are several meetings for raggare around Sweden. The Power Big Meet is the most famous one, and is also the biggest car show in the world.

Expatriate - S/T (Heart First) ‘90
Got great response to the “No Sleep Til Chugwater” single by these guys. This is their second single which was released in 1990. It is a live recording at the Longhorn Saloon in Denver, CO in January of 1987. A couple of the songs have a strong thrash sound on top of their patented metallic hardcore with a d-beat rhythm. The bass player Patrick went on to form Blowhole and the drummer Pete is in AirSick.
Thanks to Patrick for the copy.

The Samples - Dead Hero (No Future Oi! 14) ‘82
One of the great early 80’s UK Oi/Punk 7″’s. Released on the classic No Future label, The Samples represent the epitome of the genre. With hard hitting breaks and heavy undertones, The Samples deliver an often overlooked piece of vinyl that is a must in anyone’s collection. Enjoy!

ANTI-CIMEX - Anarkist Attack 4-song ep ‘81
Here’s the first ANTI-CIMEX ep someone requested. Released in 1981 under catalog# BULLSHIT 001 (great catalog number). This line-up of Nillen on vocals (great screaming photo on the back cover), Jocke on guitar, Charlie on drums, and Jonsson on bass, changed immediately after recording this. This is the only recording I know of by this line-up; if anyone knows different, lemme know.

More from Swedens #1 D-beat kängcore punks.
Formed in Gothenburg 1981 and named after the largest scandinavian exterminator company. First here is their third 7″ Ep “Victims Of A Bomb Raid” released in 1984. Back then this EP was hailed in Maximum Rock N Roll etc. More recently the title track was covered by Napalm Death. Second is the “Fucked In Finland - Live 92″ EP. The ’90s ‘Cimex was a little heavier, which might upset some of you but I personally dig this stuff. Recorded from the board in Lepakko Suomi, this also got Cliff from Moderat Likvidation on bass. Anti Cimex broke up in 1994 and today Cliff plays guitar and vocals in Driller Killer.
Jonsson (a.k.a. Freke) sang on several albums with Wolfpack.
I saw Charlie kicking the drums recently, he’s now playing with the Troublemakers.

The Scroungers - Weak As Piss (Mortville Records) ‘92
I’m not sure if this fits on here or not, but I consider this to be an essential 7″ of pissed, sharp witted Australian HC. Originally released as a cassette called “Jeff Kennett Fucks Sheep” in 1992, it was pressed on vinyl in 2000 by Mortville Records. The Scroungers were a one man band that released several cassettes available only through trade from the “band” and a split 7″ with RUPTURE on their Yeah Mate! label. 1000 copies of this were pressed, I’m sure copies are still available now. MRR compared this to CRASS in a bad mood when it was released, but I don’t hear it.

RAZAR-Task force ep AND Money ep
Allright, since most people who visit this site seem to be diggin’ on all the AUSTRALIAN stuff posted, here is some of THEE best………………………
RAZAR hailed from the suburbs of Brisbane. Unlike other local bands (Fun Things, Just Urbain and the Leftovers) razar were highly influenced by the music scene in England. With all the snot and snarl of their U.K. breathren, they released the incredible “Task force” 7″ in September 1978. Seething with discontent for disco DJs and the “cops” that busted the punks for minor infractions like swearing and curfew, this record is pure teen angst and energy.
The “Money” ep (or countdown shutdown ep) was released in April 1979. This record pretty much picks up were “task force” leaves off, still pissed but with more maturity in the song writing and an even greater affinity for English bands snotty vocals (think the DAMNED).
Enjoy………….
and by the way, boyh of these records are up for bid on ebay until 2/21/06
(not from me) so if you love GREAT punk and happen to be filthy rich………

Just Urbain
Another great single from OZ. Just Urbain was part of a conglomeration of people from Brisbane that were in or somewhat associated with other bands of the area including the Leftovers, the Young Identities, Kicks, and Section Urbane. Released on the Shake label in 1979 in a paltry edition of 100. I have heard cries of “overrated” associated with this record probably relating to the insane prices the single sells for and the length of the songs. These people are crazy. You can read about them on Break My Face.

Toxic Reasons – God Bless America (T-reason Records) ‘84
Released in UK for first European tour. Only 1,000 copies were pressed.
They were formed in Dayton, Ohio in 1979. The founding members were Bruce Stuckey (bass guitar & vocals), Joel Agne (guitar & vocals), Ed Pittman (lead vocals), and Mark Patterson (drums). In 1981, Mark Patterson left the band and was replaced by James J. Pearson (J.J.) on drums, Joel Agne was replaced by Rob Lucjak (”Snott”) on rythm guitar and Greg Stout on bass, and Bruce Stuckey switched to lead guitar. They recorded their first LP (Independence) at Keystone Recording in Indianapolis, Indiana, then went on tour and moved to San Francisco, where their label (Risky Records) was located. ~wikipedia

Fun Things - s/t (self released) ‘80
The Fun Things EP came about because we jus HAD to do a record. It was just part of the punk process, It was something you wanted to do. We felt we had a couple decent songs. we were still all in school at the time. I borrowed 400 bucks from my parents in order to make the thing happen.
-Band member Brad Shepherd
FUN THINGS top a long list of amazing Australian bands that you need to know about. This single has a bit of Thunders/Heartbreakers worship going on with out all the junkie bullshit. For all you need to know about FUN THINGS, check out the their history from the bands Brad Shepherd via breakmyface
