dendo kokeshi = “Electric Doll”
niku = “Meat”, or “Flesh”

was re-issued in 1984 as a freebie with an issue of Michiro’s “ING,O!” zine, but “niku” was replaced with the track “Tenpura Rock”(which appears also on the “vietnam legend” cassette LP)

buyer beware!! many collectors try to pass this re-issue off as the original, and the PS is almost identical, so if you cant read Japanese text, its easy to be fooled.

I hate to get sociological, but I wanted to read everyone’s opinion on this; during the time these Japanese bands were at their most aggressive Japan itself was considered to be in great economic shape and the majority of people in polls taken at the time (translated and transcribed in US magazines during the height of the paranoia over “Japanese Goods” believed that Japan was on it’s way to “even greater things”. It seems that the bands’ anger was directed primarily at blissful joy brought on by consumerism; and the subsequent Japanese preoccupation with America. The bands’ reaction to this was to retool American and European art and music then launch it as their attack. The irony in that is obvious, but in a sense I believe that is what makes the music they produced resonant as authentically as it does. After the occupation of Japan; Japan’s natural culture was cut off, therefor the Japanese emulation of other cultures is Japanese culture. Meaning that if the groups had created a completely new type of music it would not serve their purpose of reflecting cultural and social pain. Or maybe they were just bored.

Maybe they function as any citizens anywhere else in the world as if you get or import a lot of cultural influences from the outside world why not adopt those you like to your own environment so you could identify with them even easier.
…And at the same time it also get more interesting and funny when the bands describe something closer to your own life and heart?

Kikeiji was good and the prior Stalin post too,interesting stuff!

wedge, you’re exactly right on with the re-ish and the original of this record. I own em’ both and the sleeve IS practically identical. Cool song on the b-side of the re-ish though, having never heard the “vietnam legend” lp.

Ford, lighten up bro……every culture has emulated another in some way and turned it in to their own thing, perhaps made it better, no matter the originators message. Didn’t you ever hear N.W.A.s covers of SKREWDRIVER songs……HA!!
