Nice. More Finnish hardcore/punk plz.
Oh yeah I believe after this EP Cadgers changed their name into Riistetyt
just recently re-issued so you can grab the vinyl right now.
Awful hardcore! Really bad and generic.Plus look at their stupid image.2nd kid from right on the Kaoos cover looks so dumb.Simply pathetic and nothing to do with punk.Fashion “punk” fuck off!
Fang : You’re a fucking dick, who the fuck made you the author of the punk rulebook? I bet you weren’t even born when this came out..tosser.
Ah i knew my comment would make some of you cry.Rule? You are talking about rulebook? Funny cause what i was saying is that these bands are exactly “punk” by the book! And sounds like you are too.I am 40 years old so i was born then.So now go look yourself in the mirror and pretend you are “punk”.Tosser! Don’t forget to comb your “punk” before you go in public.
your “punk” hair*
If your fourty best get back to your coffin you docile twat, you have the most conservative attitude I’ve heard in years, punk by the book my arse. Most of those guys got shit every day they walked down the streets for looking the way they do in Sweden & Finland, same as we did in England.
Fourty or not, you think your better than someone because you dress different, you arrogant self righteous piece of excrement. Think I’d rather sink some beer with those guys than with someone who thinks their punk and hasn’t learned the first most important rule of freedom of expression.
It sickens me to say, but people like you nearly killed the punk spirit with your rules. Back to your coffin now…..
Laugh out loud! Your name is “discontrol”.Hahaha, stupid clone! All these “dis” bands are acting like monkey and are so lame.Sounds all the same, the record covers looks all the same, songs about all the same, the”monkey” playing it looks all the same! A real joke.Be an individual be yourself! Monkey see money do.Ah,remember when Discharge put that lame heavy metal music in the mid-80’s? I bet you haven’t heard that stuff as it is out of print for years. The band probably don’t want to hear it i guess. Now that Discharge became famous with years they decided to reform and make some easy money playing their “punk” stuff to a bunch of kids in “punk” uniform following the “punk” rules of the “scene”.They would play heavy metal right now if it was their “Brave new world” lp that was “classic.Pathetic! I’ll let you alone so can can play your Casualties records.Fashion “punk” toss off!
You are a cliche! Simple as that.THese bands killed punk.I know you would like me to say you are punk and these bands are punk too,oh i forgot they are PUNX,but it isn’t the case.Stop crying like you need my approval.”punk” by the rulebook is what it is.Halloween “punk”!.End of discussion.
I’m from Finland and I can say that it was little bit different in here than in U.S. or England in the early eighties. That’s why I have very much respect for the people who had the courage to risk their health by showing what they are. And this has nothing to do with Discharge re-union.
guys? please? can we keep the board from becoming a sniping pit? this blog is a forum to keep this music alive. you wanna vent? do it off topic and in private.
Bryan, you’re right mate. Sorry.
But in answer to Fang, yes I heard that LP, I saw DISCHARGE on the APOCALYPSE NOW tour, in 19 fucking 81, I saw the GRAVE new world tour, the Massacre Divine tour, and numerous gigs througout the years, I followed BROKEN BONES around the UK during 84 to over 30 shows, so go fuck yourself. If you have a problem with the band go take it up with Bones or Tezz and I’m pretty sure they’ll be happy to listen to your qualms. Very nice guys, so just run along and enjoy your whatever you enjoy, and leave those who want to listen in peace without venting your angst behind the safety of your PC and making yourself look like a bitter and spiteful anal probe.
Hey Vittujoo, cool to hear from you man. I’ve wondered what it was like in Finland in Sweden in the early-mid 80’s. From the photos & videos I’ve seen it seemed like the kids dressed more like british punk than we did in US/Canada so I guess I assumed that it was more accepted in the society there. Generally the punk/HC scenes in US/Cda were small and spread out and we definitely had to “pay” for our individuality. Just rolling up your pants, wearing boots and shaving your head was begging for trouble. Was it tough to be hardcorepunk in Finland, or was it viewed as kids just going thru a “phase”?
i’m also finnish and i’d like to add that they were something like 14 years old kids when they recorded this split ep (1981). and are still these days into punk or “in scene”. whatever you want to call it but i wouldn’t call it “fashion punks” for being 25 years in the scene… 8some of them at least) and about the music it’s their first recording, go listen for example kaaos: ristiinnaulittu kaaos lp or riistetyt: skitsofrenia lp and you can compare the sound and find out that something happened musically meanwhile. i also agree that finnish punx look a bit funny (still) with their “turbopunk” outfits but i personally like it very much like that!
The first Finnish band I heard was LAMA. John Peel played a song which he said was translated “the truth can always be found in your morning porridge”. I saw Rattus twice last year when they came to Florida and the guys still rocked. I gave them a copy of the video I took of them and they gave me their Rattus banner. These are the real punks. Guys who always will be their to entertain us not divide us.
more great noisy hc from Finland, some of KAAOS’ stuff reminds me of Japan’s CONFUSE, which actually owes a lot more to DISORDER than DISCHARGE, i’d say. i guess it could be argued either way that the proliferation of the DISCHARGE influence across Europe early on stunted a lot of the individuality of punk, but Fang here says it “KILLED PUNK”?! nah, if anything it helped it flourish. an easy style is easy to copy, but “for better” or “for worse” is all up to your perception.
Hee hee! Just read all that nonsense between Discontrol & Fang. Can’t we all just be friends?! I mean, seriously, aren’t there more important things to worry about than all this petty shit? Fang, I personally think this split 7″ is amazingly raw & primitive, but in a good way. That’s how punks, especially in Finland, looked at the time. Get over it! And Discontrol, take some chill pills, will ya? Sheesh!! Isn’t it the music that counts? And what music!!!
Silly discussion before (or was it just someone who wanted to blow off some steam with a flamebait?) since almost every style of punk has it´s own image and fashion.
Sex pistols even dressed up in clothes from their manager Malcolm McLaren´s fashionable shop called “Sex” on Carnaby street.
As long you want to express yourself and have something to say it´s more than a fashion.
ive never seen this PS here. ive always had the official P.Tuotanto re-press from 1989 & it has a totally diff sleeve…i guess Hohnie did an official reissue with this sleeve recently?? either way, this is one MuthaFukkah of a screaming noise disc & is a total classic. absolutely stunning stuff!!
love the Kaaos side
Oh dear… I read the (amazing) discussion about the looks of these Finnish hardcore punx and I can assure you that it took a lot of nerve to walk on the streets in Finland in the beginning of the 80’s dressed like that. I’m now 41 years old and still a punk, and I had this bristles & studs look in the beginning of the 80’s as well. Different countries had different punk cultures, and we here in Finland liked to dress up in a really “punky” way, and we enjoyd it, whereas for example punks in the USA dressed in quite a normal way back in the days, and I think both ways were ok (even though when I was younger and saw pictures of American punks I was a bit suprised to see that they looked so “normal”, ha ha). We here in Finland had a huge influnce coming from English punx, such as Discharge, Chaos UK, Disorder, GBH etc. For me, personally, it was great to shock people by dressing like I did. I got a lot of shit from untolerant people, but every now and then it was truely great to meet people who didn’t judge me by my clothes, as well. And it was always a pleasure to see other punks, as it was very easy to recognize them :)
All I wanted to say was that when certain punks used to wear studded leather jackets and make their hair spiky or mohawk, they did it even though they had a chance to get beaten up every time they went out - and often they were - but they continued to be what they wanted to be. They beat you up, but you just keep on irritating them by your look, and enjoy it.
The times are different now. Perhaps it’s easier to dress like punk nowadays, I don’t know, but if it is, it’s because those early hardcore punks took the beating. And I think something has changed, for example when I was young, guys did not wear earrings. Punks did, and I remember very well how the rednecks told me to take it of or they would rip it off. I didn’t, and nowadays it’s trendy to wear an earring. And old grannies dye their hair red (in my youth it was only punks who had red/green/blue/orange etc. hair - now it’s tolerated). Some elements of punky dressing may be fashion now, but they sure were’t fashion back then. It was a statement and we were proud to be punks and show it. Hell, I’m STILL proud to be a punk!!! So don’t give me that shit. I still enjoy to see young punks with their “punk uniform”, it brings nothing but warm memories into my mind…
And one more thing: if someone thinks Finnish punks combed their punk hair before they went in public, he’s wrong. We looked like that 24 hours a day, I can assure that. It was what we looked like, where ever we were. As far as I know, Finnish hardcore punks were no “weekend punks”, they looked like that all the time.
And if Kaaos/Cadgers 7″ is not punk, then I really don’t know what is…! How can any punk resist ‘Kytät on natsisikoja’?! It’s primitive, it’s raw, it’s angry, it’s juvenile, it’s straight-to-the-point, it’s unpretentious, it’s a musical (?) fuck off, it’s so ugly that it’s beautiful. It’s essential hardcore punk! There!
Hi Arto, thanks for the lesson in Finnish punk! And here I always thought Finland was a friendly country, where punks might of been more understood.
