DEADBEATS-Kill the hippies (dangerhouse IQ-29) 1979
The musicianship of the young men who comprised the Deadbeats was a joy to behold. Scott Guerin and his brother Shaun played as extensions of the same self, and the band also served to unleash Geza X and Pat Delaney on the world. Their stage act musically and visually confounded every cliché and preconception about what “punk rock” meant. Their unique, driving sound consisted of treated sax and fuzz guitar layered over flawlessly executed intricate rhythm patterns.
David Brown, one of the founders of DANGERHOUSE RECORDS
DEADBEATS were a great band from the early L.A. punk scene. Before the rules were written about how punks should sound or dress, these guys defined the sheer creativity of what “punk” music could be. This is my favorite DANGERHOUSE 7″ and one of my fave eps of all time. I’ve also included a “bonus track” that was never released in it’s time and was only available on the DANGERHOUSE vol. 1 CD. Yes folks, I said CD. If you’re a vinyl purist, skip the track. If you wanna hear one of the best DEADBEATS songs and featuring, IMO, one the greatest nervous, spazzy guitar solos on a punk 7″, by all means, ENJOY!!!!!
