Anti-Septic

Anti-Septic - First Last 7″ (Hold Up/Noise Room Records Japan) ‘85

Not much seems known about this band other than they released this classic EP in 1985. Just about everything on this record epitomises the classic Japanese hardcore sound of the mid ’80s. Gruff vocals, mid tempo beats, crunching guitar, metallic riffs and memorable songs. Like many Japanese bands back then these guys had big hair and weren’t afraid to sport make-up & lipstick - in stark contrast to European and North American bands.

Tracks
Visions Of Power
War Game
Dice With Death
Death Or Glory

Killer shit. One of the best of 85, my first reaction on hearing the first cut was to be reminded of the mighty G.I.S.M. I actually just ripped this myself ready to post…ha ha!! On Hold Up records too, who released those killer 8″ sampler EPs!!

I like this one particulary, very good.
Was recorded in december 85, but released in 86.
Hold Up had a few good records, it was Systematic Death label from Yokohama (south of Tokyo). Another good band on Hold-Up was Janky, they had a flexi in 84.

I’m not so sure about the GISM influence, it’s just the typical Japanese punk/hardcore sound around Tokyo and Osaka (i prefer excluding the crazy bands that came out of Kyushu and Hokkaido, which had a very particular sound, check the recent GAI post to have a small idea), till 86/87 at least, after bands were mainly focused on speed and heavy sound, obvious examples being SOB and Deathside.
Forgot to mention that Hold Up became Noise Room Records (NRR) and released Mobs, Ghoul 1st records, among other releases including some metal bands as United or Zadkiel (well apparently Zadkiel was on Hold Up…). I’ll try to post Crime and At Det Flexis which are quite similar to Anti Septic.

Nice. I tend to feel that a lot of the old Japanese stuff is overrated just because it’s Japanese, but I really dig these tunes. Thanks for the hook up!

the change in direction of HOLD UP & NOISE ROOM records is due to who was releasing the actual records under the label’s “name”. originally, HOLD UP label was organized by SHIGERU OKANO(SYSTEMATIC DEATH)& JHA JHA (then COMES bassist; future LIP CREAM vocalist). Jha Jha dropped out pretty soon(but not before the 1st LIP CREAM ep), and MAX (GHOUL) came on board & was responsible for the more “metal” stuff under the NOISE ROOM imprint.still, the 1st MOBS ep on Noise Room is INCREDIBLE!!!
