ARMIA s/t 7″ep (TONPRESS # S-648 / Poland) ‘87
The debut vinyl for the legendary ARMIA. Formed & fronted by the ex-vocalist(T. Budzynski) of SIEKIERA(who changed from DEVASTATING noisy HC into somewhat ‘gothic’ “Cold Wave” after his departure), this ep stands as a benchmark in European HC history. ARMIA released their 1st LP not long after this single came out, but their 2nd LP(”Legenda”) is without a doubt their finest moment & is considered a “European HR/HM” classic, even though it is HC Punk in the style of this EP. Their stuff gets kinda sketchy after their 2nd LP, as they ventured into avant/prog rock territory with odd time signatures, etc. Still around today, they recently did a gig in Poland where they played all their “old HC” stuff & there is a semi-legit cd of this gig out there. Sound is kind of rough, but they still kicked some major butt.

yep, first post and it’s already ugly……….
Great to hear a “clean” version of this as all I’ve ever had was a 4th generation cassette copy from a guy who knew a guy that traded with someone in Poland. I also have two amazing live cassette comps w/these guys. The only one I could find is called “live in Robrege 1985″ and it has REJESTRACJA, ABSURD and DEZERTER. Raw as hell, but good sound.
This 7″ destroys!!! Please keep em’ coming…….
“…this ep stands as a benchmark in European HC history” I was wondering about this Wedge if that’s “just” your own opinion or if people talk about it that way? why I’m wondering is cause I was deep down in the HC community in Europe back then and haven’t heard it until now.
well, at least in Poland & other eastern european countries, its considered this. part of the problem with this records obscurity was the fact it was released on a state run label that didnt distribute their stuff outside of the state sanctioned shops in Poland. if you didnt know someone in Poland, you just couldnt obtain it,i guess.
i got my personal copy that you see here from P.Tuotanto(Finland) in very late ‘87, so im guessing that at least a handful of copies got out at the time.
it used to pop up on eeBay a lot a few years back & was, oddly enough, always from UK sellers, but i have not seen a copy online in about 3~4 years, ANYWHERE.
this is a great post wedge…wanted to hear this one for many years but never could seem to find a copy anywhere, i guess you explained the reason above. to bad bands like this couldnt get their stuff outside the walls of their country…what a shame.
Nice slab. Also available on the first LP on CD as bonus tracks along with the “Jak Punk To Punk” comp tracks and covers of Ramones and Rush(?!)…
i’m freinds with some polish punks living in nyc. they just laid a cdr version of tzn xenna ‘84 lp Ciemny Pokoj on me as well as the new dezerter cd. omigod is this good!
I think that early Yugoslavian punk was the best in Eastern Europe, but polish was ok too,
polish punk was anti commie /we had martial law in 1981/ and it was very genuine, if someone is looking for polish music I may help
