IKKASHINJU “Slow Down” ep ( Premium label #P.R-90E) ‘85
in my opinion, this ep COMPLETELY defines Japanese HC ~ well recorded, yet noisy ; well played, yet chaotic ; metal-influenced WITHOUT any metal damage; and absolutely RAGING!!!
outside of their releases, the only thing i know about them is that they were from the Gifu area (home of SDS & Crow) and were around from 1983-1992. there is a previous flexi called “dead section” (which had a track appear on the “Killed By Hardcore” LP), and after this there are the ep’s called “Jisyu-Sei-Ska” , “Live” , & “Kusubitiri” . if anybody can post these other eps/flexi, id love to hear them. they are seemingly IMPOSSIBLE to find. i do have the “Kusubitiri” ep, though, and its slowed down NOISY dirge punk. not bad, but nowhere as great as this ep.

‘85 was indeed a fine year.
Ikka Shinju rules!!!I have practically all their stuff on tape(thanx to Otto of Selfish)but I never knew there is a live 7″.
The ‘Shisuuseisaku’ 7″ has 7 tracks in the same league as the ‘Slow Down’ 7″.
I have once seen Ikka Shinju records for sale at Circledelic but one had to pay at least 180$ for it.
WEDGE-check your email(hotmail) !!!!
I too have a bunch of stuff from these guys on cassette from years ago. In all the years I’ve been listening to Japanese hc, I’ve RARELY seen any of these records for sale or trade, usually just listed on peoples WANT list.
After initially hearing the later stuff(’88-89)first, I couldn’t understand all the fuss. When I heard this ep and the “dead section” flexi, it all become crystal clear. Wedge sums it up pretty well above, so I’ll shut my trap and enjoy this…….
shit, I am familiar with 80´s japancore, but this band is totally unknown for me…and so ragging! Why the hell they haven´t participated on Eye Of The Thrasguerilla LP? It sounds like if KURO stops copying BROKEN BONES and MOTORHEAD on their later recordings and gets faster and rawer. Japancore´ll bring us straight to hell after death :-)
Yo Wedgie, there’s no “live” 7″. There’s another 7″ called “Dead Section III” (but no Dead Section II). Also, everything after “Dead Section” flexi was hard vinyl. Ever heard No Class, also on Premium Rec, with a very similar aesthetic?
such is life…ive been told of a LIVE ep from many collectors for years, si i guessed there was one…ah well…as for “dead section III”, i always assumed that was a mis-titled reference to the “dead section” flexi; as that flexi has 3 tracks on it…oh well…only ever found out about NO CLASS in the last year or 2. one 7″ that ive heard of, from 1988~9??? ive been told that they have a sound similar to Systematic Death, but thats it…
oh yeah, i know a pretty famous japanese HC collector who once got ALL the stuff by this band for like 300yen each at TIGER HOLE in Tokyo about 9 years ago, but ive been waiting for a promised tape of them all ever since…
Wedge, I suppose anything is possible, but I don’t think there is a live record. Anyway, I was mistaken: No Class 7″ (from ‘88) is not on Premium Rec. It’s on Tune Rec. Systematic Death is not really an inaccurate comparison, but No Class are not that fast. They remind me of Janky or 4th International in that each song is a little different from the rest; one sounds Gauze-esque, another is mid-tempo, another has some ADK-damage, etc.
wow. this is really powerful!
wow this is really powerful! good stuff
didnt mean to comment twice (now 3)
hey stuart, is dead section III very good? the first 3 eps are some of my favorite Japanese hc records, so good that i feel like i need to hear it no matter what
ok, so, you got one by yourself that was never once mine. :p
…silly boy…
