Mornington Crescent - Greetings from Amsterdam 7″ EP (Scratched Records, Holland) ‘83
Mornington Crescent, familiar to Londoners as a tube station in Camden also happens to be the name of a band with one of the most sought after Dutch hardcore EPs . They only released this EP, one demo in 1983 and a split flexi with BGK that was given away with a UK ‘zine.
KFTH has some info on the band.
Tracks
The End
In Bed
Possession
Dying in the Street

This EP is really amazing. I remember hearing “Dying In The Street” on the Killed By Hardcore vol 3 LP and getting blown away (well, most of the stuff on that LP blew me away since I didn’t know about hardly any of it at the time, but that’s a whole ‘nother story!). This 7″s needs to be reissued badly. If you can’t wait though, I recall TAANG records having a copy for sale for $100.
long live old hardcore releases made in europe!!! another proof that not only the early 80′ties U.S. hardcore scene produced many great bands , here in you europe we sure kicked some ass too!! think of all those great bands like Heresy,Ripcord,Zyklome A, Heibel,BGK,Larm,Terveet Kadet…and off course this absolute devastating release by MxCx!! hats off to hardcore!!!
Hmmmmmm. The End reminded me of early Venom without the guitar wanking……..the rest reminded me of the time I was severely constipated. Was not impressed, but it still beats all that 80’s radio bullshit anyday. Thanks
being severely constipated can really make for a shitty day or week. Try branflakes..they tend to work for me.
Thanks
The vox(not the music) really remind me of Doom, nice gear!Mornington Crescent certainly have an undutch name and probably the only Punk band named after a tube station or a stupid radio 4 quiz show game…any chance of the Chainsaw flexi?
Yeah, those vocals are defininely ahead of their time. Same deal as Crude SS.
I’ve heard that the flexi that came with Chainsaw fanzine just had already released tracks by both bands. A shame really because I could sure use more tracks by this band, not to mention BGK!
ive never had the flexi, but according to everything ive heard/read about it, its just 1 track from each band & the tracks are directly lifted off of thier respective eps. a nice one to have if youre a “comic-book”-type collector nerd, but not necessary if youre looking for more music from each band…whatever…
btw, i find green, leafy lettuce & fresh sweet corn a wonderful remedy for constipation
Thanks again!
I ate dinner, listened to it again, hoping that it would sound better. Ummmmm…..I think it sounds worse. Sorry. My wife just said, “That’s terrible, turn it off”. HAHAHAHA
haha…funny my wife says that all the time when i put ANY music on in our house.
Too slow and boring? Erase the pain! Try 45 or more rpm, I’ve tried and it sounds far better!!!
This is great Dutch HC and the demo is even better. Theonlytrueposeur doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
i must be REALLY blessed!! not only does my wife like punk & HC stuff, but she TOTALLY loves the “wacky” vocals on “THE END” !! it loses her interest after that, but i still RAGE the other 3 tracks…GGGGRRRRRRRRRRR
Still don’t get it, it bores me. Sorry
I agree!
i love it, but then again, i don’t have a wife. thanx for posting this, Zouo. since i’ll never get a copy in my suckass life, this will definitely suffice.
also kinda reminds me of a Montreal band from the 90’s called SHITFIT, vocally and musically. recently listened to it again & probably like it more now then i did then.
Hi,
I have the Chainsaw zine flexi (but not the mag). There are actually 3 bands on it - Mornington Crescent does “Possession”, BGK does “White Male Dumbinanace” and a terrible band called Butcher get 2 songs - a cover of “Get it On (Bang a Gong)” and “Psycho Trend.” It sounds like the tracks are lifted right off the vinyl and pressed onto a very crappy quality flexi. Unless you want every comp these bands appeared on there’s no reason to seek this out. (PS - in true punk form Side A is pressed on Side B.)
