Heresy to the rest of the world is the UK band…but in Detroit we rightfully think of these guys. Detroit’s Heresy played it loud, hard, and crusty, and were the kingpins of the Detroit scene back in the 80’s. While they never had an official release, this demo speaks volumes for the band that to this day rank up with Negative Approach and the Meatmen in Detroit punk lore. An interview with lead singer Tim King recounts the history better than I ever could. Check out “City of Despair.”

Great post!I have this somewhere on tape but the quality is shit.Nice to hear it with a decent sound.I once had contact with Jason of Battlkry Records and he told me he was planning to reissue it on vinyl.Suppose this never happened.
Anyone heard the ‘Stem the Bloodbath’ demo of GORE?This was another MI band from the mid-80’s strongly influenced by THE VARUKERS.
Nice to finally hear this band. Never had a chance to check em out, which is odd seeing as how I’m from Michigan and all. Reminds me of Crucifix and stuff like that. Rad.
WOW !!!, were to begin with these guys………
Detroits longest running hardcore band, HERESY were definitely involved in every scene from the mid 80’s to the early 90’s. I saw these guys play live like 40 or 50 time as, at one point, they opened for almost every cool touring band that came through Detroit. Not really fist wave ( N.A. MEATMEN, STATE, VIOLENT APATHY etc.) Tim (vocals) and his brother Randy were at EVERY early punk gig in Detroit. If you’ve ever seen the “why be something that you’re not” video (local access cable tapes all day gig featuring N.A. NECROS, CRUCIFUCKS, MISFITS etc.in Dearborn, Mi), Tim and Randy are at the front of the stage “skankin’ it up” for every band. These brothers, aptly nicknamed the SLEEZESTACKS ( tall, pointy headed “goons” from LAND OF THE LOST tv show) are Detroit legends.
The original line up of this band featured Mick on the guitar and Wayne on bass (both pictured in the photo for this post). Don’t remember who played drums, a couple different guys I think.
The line up on this tape was the longest running.
Nearer the end of the band, they started getting a bad reputation for some of the shows they played (apple sids clubhouse) and the knuckleheads that followed them (skinheads).
So funny to think back on all this now, as it makes me realize my age (40).I use to think these guys were so much older and had been around forever(especially Tim, now 50 !!) but in reality, I was along for most of the ride with em’.
They had a reunion thing not to long ago (didn’t go). Not really sure what some of em’ are up to these days. Chuck plays in the “SKEEMIN NO GOODS”
with post hardcore NECROS bassist Ron Sakowski. Pete still plays with local rock-a-billy/boogie legends TWISTIN’ TARANTULAS I believe and Randy King (Tims brother)builds and collects 50’s hot rods.
Like mugshot sez: these guys are local legends. Too bad they never released a record. Maybe then, they would’ve gotten the recognition they rightly deserved.
Leffe yes ive heard of and have the GORE demo tape…loved it back in the day. I think I still might have it kickinn around here somewhere, used to penpal with Ken back in the day.
Gore just did a reunion gig not long ago where they were selling CD’s…so they’re floating around. Now, the bad news…Gore is now a hate band called Rebel Hell.
Actually, since we’re digginh up old Detroit scene history, anyone have any Allied?
Mugshot..you surious about GORE doing the hate thing under the name Rebel Hell? Still all the old original members from GORE?
Unfortunately, Yes. Saw them play at a recent reunion and they passed off “Their new project” to me. All hate stuff.
Just looked it up…Ken and Bill are the only original members doing Rebel Hell.
This is alright even though these guys look like GBH but then again a lot of punks were looking like that in ‘83-84.
I have a demo by this band, but it doesn’t sound really like that, anyone knows the year of this demo? I think the one i have is from 86, and i have a couple of tracks from a comp released in 87 which have “Loved You To Death” which isn’t played like on this one.
Gore/Rebel Hell? How awful………..A punk rock band that hates. What’s the world comin’ to…..!
The best live band in Detroit is hateful ??!?!? My, my, apparently diversity in music and opinion is not tolerated, everyone must only like the pre-packaged hate and diversity delivered by the MSM.
Posting some pics of Heresy, and flyers. Check out my “top 100 punk concerts” countdown.
Uh, I’m pretty sure this is Mick Nasty playing guitar on this Heresy Demo-which =awesome btw! Where are you these days Mick?
Guitar is Mick Nasty.
Rebel Hell, hate?
Rebel Hell could not possibly project hate anywhere near the level Kayne West.
