HONOR ROLE-It Bled Like A Stuck Pig ep (Eskimo ER001)’84

In honor (pun intented) of NO WAY RECORDS re-releasing the HONOR ROLE demo (originally a split tape w/GRAVEN IMAGE) on vinyl, I present to you the “It Bled Like A Stuck Pig………” ep.

HONOR ROLE formed from the ashes of the DONORS in Richmond, VA 1983, they quickly released a split tape (”my bowl is your skull” mentioned above) w/GRAVEN IMAGE. Soon after (’84) they released the “It Bled……” 7″ to less than enthusiastic response.

The Donors broke up. John graduated. The bass player, who was John’s younger brother, Matt, and I slowly evolved into what Honor Role was [in 1983]. It was me and Matt Morand hanging out in high school, trying to write some tracks, realizing that we generally hated everybody around us and that they all hated us. Matt went to college, so we got another bass player. [Drummer] Steve [Schick] moved here from Indianapolis, and then we recorded [the 1984 seven-inch EP] It Bled Like a Stuck Pig, the punk-rock record. It was cool but I was a fucking idiot; I couldn’t sing. But it was punk rock. God bless it.

Guitarist Pen Rollings in retrospective, Chunklet issue 18.

With adolescent angst/goofiness and a desire to throw some ” more than standard hardcore” quirkiness into their song writing, HONOR ROLE were sadly unappreciated in their time. Although their demo was more standard hardcore, the “It bled….” 7″ shows a bit more maturity and in what direction that the band was actually heading. This is a great early american hardcore record that has NOT gotten the credit it is due.
