DISCLOSE - Visions of War 7″ (Distortion Records) ‘96

Disclose is a Japanese hardcore punk band, heavily influenced by Discharge. Disclose use the infamous d-beat drumming style. The sound heavily replicates Discharge’s style, with an increased use of fuzz and distortion guitar effects. The subject matter is also similar to Discharge, in that the songs’ themes are primarily about nuclear war, and its horrific consequences. Members & former members include: Kawakami (vocals & lead guitar), Tsukasa (vocals), Fukugawa (bass guitar), Yasuoka (bass guitar), Yousei (bass guitar), Hiro (drums), Fujiwara (drums), Uo-Katou (drums), Aki (drums) & Naoto.

Enjoy !

As unoriginal as the whole d-beat is/was, these guys stood out from the pack. Even if the songs are sorta generic, there was a ultra raw and sincere quality that put this head and shoulders above most of the d-beat clone bands. This isn’t my favorite DISCLOSE record(the later dis-bones style of the APOCALYSPE OF DEATH 12″ is though)
but it’s still a crusher. Cool post!!!

Dis noise raw punk mayhem…Kawakami playing chainsaw instead regular guitar. My favourite stuff is Tragedy LP, which sounds like Shitlickers. This band is a piece of hardcore history

It’s great how much respect and praise Disclose seem to get these days.

This post jogged my memory to a little known fact and something I’d almost forgotten myself: I wrote the final draft of the lyrics for the Tragedy LP. Kawakami was struggling with English back then and was worried that the band’s lyrics made little sense. So I re-wrote the lyrics for them just changing the odd word and correcting the grammar at the same time trying to keep some of the original style. That’s what ended up on the LP.

I’m gonna be overly harsh & put Discharge clone bands in the bad commercial band tribute basket ala The Australian Pink Floyd Show etc ad nauseum. UK band Active Minds got it spot on with their ‘Dis is getting ridiculous’ ep which slagged the whole slavish devotion to dischargism…right down to the font! (& they copped a lot of shit for that too). I’d like to see a cabaret style band performing discharge covers, or maybe slow swing…now THAT would be punk!

Zouo!thats a good claim to fame!

One of the latter Oi Polloi 7″s (Let The Boots Do The Talking, I think?) has a Dis-song generator. Fucking hilarious. Basically you spin these two octagons and one of them is all 2-line verses and the other is 2-line chorsuses. Endless song possiblities…

actually, active minds is a boring band mixing great styles on their own together in a very horrible and unbalanced way… like in genre or tradition, there are gunna be way more boring artists and bands than innovators or people who maintain a real sense of raw, noisy, sincere energy… I think DISCLOSE hits the mark as far as DBEAT goes…

disclose got props back in the day because of that sound. that chanisaw was killer. but we still couldn;t get enough of a chuckle at how utterly “dis” they were. that was and still is ridiculous. talk about fashion, how different is that than barbie and ken look-alikes that punks used to snub their noses at? besides that and the whole if the 7 inch or lp is all black and has pictures of dead people on it it will sell. i know for sure a lot of distros wouldn;t think of carrying something unless it had that look. sad but true. disclose did sound killer tho.
