BRAIN GENOCIDE / P.P.S.H. - Split ep (Consensus Reality) ‘96
Mystery 7″. Big Brother Internet ain’t givin’ up nuthin’, so here’s what I got:
Rumor #1: this record (both bands) was actually played and recorded by one guy in the mid ’90’s.
Rumor #2: the guy is a member of a prominent Japanese hardcore band.
Rumor #3: he recorded it on a 4-track in the bathroom at Tribal War Records HQ.
Rumor #4: there is no drummer, it’s a programmed drum machine.
Rumor #5: a full-length tape of these sessions exists.
Now for the facts:
Fact #1: PPSh-41 is a WWII Soviet-built submachine gun (similar sonically to the drums here).
Fact #2: this is probably the best goddamn hardcore record in the past 15 years!
BRAIN GENOCIDE Tracks
The Unleashed
Fight
P.P.S.H. Tracks
Total Rip Off
Dead Punx On The Roof
Bang Bang
Any confirmation or further details would be greatly appreciated.

Always great to hear when newer bands respect/pay tribute to their elders but turn up the intensity a notch or two in the process. great record that sounds like it was released in the 80’s. Having never heard this, I can’t help you with the rumors or facts, although I suspect special Japanese unit detective WEDGE is on the case.
Keep diggin’ boob, yer battin’ a thousand so far!!
wow, that was good… thanks!
All the rumors except #2 are true (played in other bands but none “famous”). I don’t know about a full-length tape, but I think there were other songs recorded at the time.
Shingo-san is living in Australia last I heard, and guaranteed he’s still drunk.
This is definitely the best hardcore record ever from Brooklyn!
last i talked to Shingo, he was getting ready to leave Australia cos, as he put it, “nothin’ going on here”. that was about 2 months ago.
as for the “prominent band” rumor; well he was playing in DISTRAUGHT at the time these tracks were recorded, and when he went back to Japan in 1998, he joined up with HAZARD & plays on the totally great “hate hate hate” ep released by MCR in 2000. there was supposed to be a flexi released by Consensus Reality label of the leftovers of this session, but it never got released. supposedly they still have the DAT. i have a 20 min tape of EARLIER stuff somewhere & its a little slower in tempo than this stuff, but SO SO SO MUCH harsher in sound & style…
this man is a GENIUS!!
some records dont warrant any comment at all, but this one needs 2 from me. let me just say one more time that this record is really freakin’ good.
sure i’m late but i gotta tell ya i fukt up the song order on side 1, should be:
BRAIN GENOCIDE Tracks
Fight
The Unleashed
sorry!
REALLY GOOD!!
