DEADLESS MUSS - “I Will…” (EP / D.I.S. Records 003 /1000 pressed) ‘85
From the city of Shizuoka…a city regarded by all of Japan as the most “boring city on earth”…Mt. Fuji ; the world landmark & destination for most Japanese suicides, is located VERY close to there…also,in the 1980’s, an AMAZING HC Punk scene THRIVED!! Deadless Muss , So What , Innocents , Zamza , Rustler , Swindle Bitch, etc…mostly names that mean nothing to the casual HC fan, but freaks of Japan stuff understand the DEVESTATION these bands created. further proof that there is something to be said for the combination of boredom & punk rock!!
this was the 3rd release of the DIRTY INFORMAL SECTION label (the previous others being the debut 1-sided 8″ flexi-discs of Deadless Muss & So What), and was their last release before hooking up with the legendary SELFISH label & changing their sound more than just a bit.
theres a couple things that make this EP totally shine…they were only 16-17 years old when it was recorded & manage to have a VERY rough & gruff sound far beyond their actual ages…and, there is a track called “future memory” at the end of side B that has a very atypically “japanese” stance to suicide. i wish i could read the actual Kanji script of these lyrics, cos the English chorus of “Never give up your life / Time heals all sorrows” DEFINATELY is in direct contrast of the “stoic” Japanese stance/attitude of “kill yourself before you are shamed”. anybody who can provide a translation,PLEASE DO SO!!
anyway, this ep is absolute destruction; the way the HC PUNK gods meant it!!!
Tracks
Never Say Die
Peace Go Away
Freedom & Rights
God Willing
To Do Nothing
Future Memory

fuckin lovely!I like the seagull sound effects at the end too..
good average record, not the best and not the worst.
Shizouka h.c. rules!!!! I’ll hafta agree w/ya- the “skate thrash” stuff after the first 2 records is pretty lame. Did D.I.S. recs put out a comp lp w/all the Shizouka bands??? Seems I’ve heard about, but never seen- any clue???
I may post the SO WHAT/RUSTLER split………. but what would be cool would be the INNOCENTS “masho” 7″ or the RUSTLER flexi.
have no idea what the LP is all about…ive never heard of if…i got the RUSTLER flexi & can post it…INNOCENTS ep is probably the the only stuff of this scene i have never heard…ive got some live video somewhere of em,though. GREAT band…who knows, maybee i can post the ZAMZA cassette if it manages to slip past the stringent screening process…
someone post the so what/rustler split!!
hey Wedge, it’s nice to see you still have all of the records you got from ME ;)
actually, ***v*, i upgraded the particular copy i got from you ages ago. you unloaded one with a Xeroxed sleeve. the above scans are of my personal copy with the full-poster jacket & lyric insert. that being said, i’ll never deny that i got A LOT of my early Japanese HC records from you in the late-80’s when you decided to unload them. i have almost all of them still to this day; and i dont ever plan on unloading any of them. i cant thank you enough!!! also, i think you & i both were very fortunate to have been exposed to most of this stuff when it was actually happening. you had the better part of the deal cos you actually had people sending to you GISM & GASTUNK records in like 1984~5, while i was just scraping by on whatever i could get on tape & the few “crumbs” that you would dump in the used bins at Chris’ Warped all those years ago. you know, first-hand, how insanely UGLY it got once i made my way over to Japan in ‘89 & started bringing suitcases of records back home with me. i still primarily collect Japanese punk & have well over 1500 records & about 200 cds, not to mention crate after crate of live/demo tapes numbering God-knows-how-many…obsession doesnt even begin to describe it…
so, hows life in your world these days??
i think you are mistaken about the photo-copied sleeve… mine was original… the cover was textured and a fold-out. (unless i’m getting it cornfused with sumpin’ else)
btw — check your other posts… i’ve peppered a few comments here and there :)
i was just bustin yer ballz ;) you were way into it just as much as i was. you had your own contacts, etc.
sure, i was VERY LUCKY… i think i’m the only one in the U.S. that’s ever had 3 copies of the Kyojinbyo flexi ;)
in the end, tho, i was happy to have the MUSIC so i duped everything to cassette and sold off most of my collection to you.
this site is great, tho! talk about re-living the past. whollyphuck!
i dont suppose you can DVDR VHS? i need Complete Death Live soooooooooooooooo bad! my copy is long lost. (is what you have what you got from me, or were you lucky enough to snag the real deal eventually?)
sayonara to my many friends. i hope not angry of it! :-D
yeah, i snagged an original a couple years ago, but it didnt have the sleeve, hence the “budget” price i got it for. a pal in Finland xeroxed the sleeves for me , so i do have the package, albiet lo-fi xeroxed-like.
(btw, i always thought the copy you dubbed for me way back when was just a crappy dupe. seems the actual production masters all have the same flaws in the POISON ARTS & DEATH SIDE footage; cos my original VHS tape is MINT, but it has the flaws of every other copy i ever seen all in the same places)
i got a dvd burner hooked up to my VHS, but i think ive used it like 5 times since i got it a couple years ago.
what are the chances Complete Death Live will get an official DVD re-release? i’ve seen Yahoo.co.jp auctions for it going for ¥12,000 starting bid, but as per usual, none of the sellers will ship internationally. the disdain for westerners is still as strong as ever ;)
another great ep .now who has geizz clay ghoul comes.i had 5000 7″ up til 87.i had em so somebody else must have too
Furious! And “Future Memory” has these moments of beauty… Really hopeful in what can often be perceived as a bleak and angry genre. And Gizzy even sings!
They r FUCK’EN GREAT !!
Listen and fuck your depression!!!
