Rudimentary Peni - S/T EP (Outer Himalayan) 1981
“When I was at school studying biology, we were told that in the fetal stage the clitoris is a rudimentary penis.”
One the greats from the british hardcore(?) scene. Once heard they never toured due to the fact their bassist was always in need of dialysis to keep him alive…true or not? Also heard that it was due to Nick being a clinical psychopath…true? Grant Matthews one of the most underrated bassist in punk/hardcore, he was one of my all time favorites, just take a real close listen to the bass lines this guy used…amazing. Also it seems the band was never really photographed, I’ve only seen a couple of pics of Nick, do others exsist? Ok now for the tunes…
Tracks
Teenage Time Killer
Hearse
Dead Living
Black President
Tower of Strength
Play
Media Person

here is a very intersting interview and article about nick. check it out:

I fucking love this, even though my wife has hated it since it’s release! We even did a cartoon of me listening to this for our fanzine we had in 1982 or 3 can’t remember?? The lyrics from “Crazy Chain” blaring from the stereo…”quacky quacky chang”…my wife’s pun on the song. Classic. I fucking love it!
the death church lp will for sure be posted at 12inchpunk when it opens its gates.
ohhh, yeah 12inchpunk almost forgot about that site. maybe oneday we can get something going over there.
The links are not working ?
Links are all up and working now…sorry for the troubles.
“‘Pope Adrian 37th’ (lp from 1995) was recorded during Nick’s recent recovery from a lengthy illness, and is believed to be the only punk album ever made whilst being detained under Section 3 of the of the 1983 Mental Health Act. As such, the subject matter of the album relates to the delusions Nick was experiencing at the time, particularly the idea that he was said Pope.” more at http://www.southern.com/southern/band/RPENI/biog.html there is also an autobiography about his band and his psychotherapy treatments, called “The Primal Screamer”. also view a larger image of the “Underclass” ep cover for more insight. someone also once told me he exclusively ate fruit that fell from a tree, no roots or anything picked, since it injured the plant or the earth; true?

plenty of pictures of nick were published on the new ian glasper book.
I write a thing called Sean Smith’s Hip Replacement, which is all about records that I’ve lost, sold or had stolen over the years. The very first one I did was about the first two Peni EPs and I’d be really grateful if you guys could have a look at it and see what you think. There’s no mp3s up there as yet but you should still be able to see what it’s all about. It’s at http://www.rejectmusicaltrash.com and I hope you like it.
And I also hope this message isn’t too spammy for you Stunt!
Spammy not…all good, great story and thanks for sharing.
Cheers Stunt. I’m just about to stick another Crass piece on - about Christ The Album - when I eventually finish it, so I’ll let you know about that in due course. And I’m still trying to track down Death Church … I’ll also return the favour with a mention (and a link) next time I write about a 7inch single. Thanks again!
DEA(+)H CHURCH IS EVERYWHERE…
RP were a unique political punk band of hardcore psychedelia but when it comes to Blinko, the cheese fell off the cracker a long time ago! I remember it was rumored back in the 80s that he died of cancer and it turned out to be bullshit when RP came out with Cacophony in ‘89. I thought that album was brilliant of Blinko’s mad genius. Didn’t one of the members from Subhumans play in RP? Also, Blinko’s artwork rivals Pushead’s artwork.
Had a copy of EP’s of RP, lost it. Now thanks to Stunt, this classic can be listened to again.
Aah is the binge drinking, experimenting with hard drugs and petty crime not far behind?
does anyone know where to get their new release?
