Man Lifting Banner – Myth of Freedom (Crucial Response Records #9) 1991

MAN LIFTING BANNER was band from the Netherlands. They were something like a communist straight edge hardcore band musically influenced by the likes of LÄRM, D.R.I. or STRAIGHT AHEAD. The lyrics are all about Lenin, Trotzki etc. Anyway this is a nice record!

The EX -6.1 (Ex Records No.? 1991)

“Hands up! you´re free” was my first encounter with netherlands anarcho group The EX…that record was different from the style I listened to,that time…their clockwork-like rhythm and the will to experimentate fascinated me.After a concert I purchased this first 7inch of a series of six.Later in 1994 I got hold of a CD by The EX with Tom Cora, called “and the weathermen shrug their shoulders” which impressed me as well…Refering to the cover sleeve of “6.1″ it came with a paper bag,a collection box and leaflets…well…I got none of that…
(maybe there is some one out here who would like to post the other five e.p.´s…)

Disgust - The Last Blast EP (Hageland) 1985

trash in the vein of Lärm and Pandemonium.
flipside of the singles states: “this ep is called the last blast for 2 reasons.
first of all we want to show our boredom of the so called punks of today.
we think punk is almost dead. the flame is just a flicker. lots of punx just destroy
all the work of active punks.
the second reason is that this ep seems to be the last blast of Disgust.
the band splitted up”

Noise & Distortion recently released the LP “flashback to trash back”,
with this single and their tape releases + contributions to compilations.

Awesome band from Amsterdam. I know nothing about them, but i believe they were on the Sex Pistols “bandwagon” when bigger labels started showing interest in punk. They released two great singles on EMI.

The first one, “so free” was pretty easy to get. It took me quite a while before i had my hands on the 2nd single “go now”. They are also on an EMI compilation called “meet the new punk wave”, amongst bands like: 999, London, The Banned, Wire, Buzzcocks, Stranglers, Saints and more. I noticed it’s for sale

anyway, here’s both singles, enjoy!

Vopo’s

Vopo’s - Im So Glad The King Is Dead 7″ (Redlux) 1980

Vopo’s are a punkband from Zwolle, Netherlands. They did this self released 7″, later followed by two lp’s: “dead entertainment” (’81) and “conquerer” (’83). The 2nd lp got really bad reviews at the time, they were accused of being sell-outs and flirting with metal. Also they had lot’s of comments on the “sexist” cover of the record.

The band is still around and plays highly energetic shows. they recently re-recorded some of their old material, but honestly i don’t think it’s worth a listen. check out their website for samples. Funny detail on the current line-up is that a few of the old members are replaced by young punks, who used to have a Vopo’s cover band.

The band has been of great inspiration to many other punks in that area, and lot’s of bands formed after this single came out. think of bands like Vultures etc…For me this is one of the best dutch punk singles from the early 80’s.

I’m so glad the king is dead
Masochisme

“Lärm” means “Noise” which is a pretty description of this Netherland bands sound…thirteen ultra-fast songs, all consequently beside any harmony…

GEPOPEL - Paracide 7″ (1985)

Can´t tell much about this record, but for alot of people the GEPOPEL 7″ is one of the best early dutch HC/Punk record. It was recorded in March 16, and mixed in May 14, 1985 and it was released on Die Hard Records (#01). It comes with a little lyrics booklet and a Die Hard Records flyer announching the FUNERAL ORATION - “Communion” LP.
There should be 3 more songs from GEPOPEL on the dutch “Beware of the wolf in Sheep´s clothing” compilation LP (that is noted in the lyrics booklet)
I bought this 7″ on a big second hand record market in Dortmund, Germany in the Mid 90s for 15DM (about 7/8 Euros/US $)

Tracks
Paracide
In Our Hands
Dogs
ZeKomenOokBijJou
Bandwagon
Tied To Time
Blind Faith
Just Because
